25 Mar 2021 in National Assembly:
Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I must thank the Committee for bringing in this Statement response quickly. I also like the fact that the Cabinet Secretary has indicated that the Ministry is currently developing a policy for recruitment and remuneration of elders. That makes me happy because it means that there is something going on. The only thing that I would have really wanted from the Committee and the CS is to simply indicate the number of elders who have been recruited nationwide. That would help us, including the National Assembly, to consider giving a small budget for them to be ...

18 Mar 2021 in National Assembly:
Hon. Speaker, this is one occasion that I have nothing to report other than that we had a robust interaction. All Members wanted to speak, but they could not because time was limited. Definitely, there was no agreement. Therefore, there is nothing for me to report, but there were a number of issues that came up; most of them were a repetition of what you had heard before, for example, the issue of NG- CDF. I do not think the Leader of the Majority Party has anything more to report. There was nothing, but a lot of airing of what ...

11 Mar 2021 in National Assembly:
Hon. Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order No.44(2)(c), I wish to request for a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security regarding facilitation of village elders, also known as wazee mtaa, in the country. Village elders play an integral role in the functioning of the national Government and even the county governments, at the village level, by assisting chiefs and assistant chiefs in facilitating national Government services, including promotion of education, handling security issues, solving disputes, promoting development initiatives and social services in their villages, through the

Initiative. It is disheartening that those elders discharge those important duties without any facilitation by the Government or even acknowledgment of the need to appreciate and motivate those village elders for the services rendered. Despite the great sacrifices the village elders make while providing those services, majority of them are suffering since they do not have alternative sources of income. It is against this background that I seek a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Administration and National Security on the following: (1) Could the Chairperson provide details on the number of village elders engaged per constituency ...

(3) What measures has the Ministry put in place to ensure that the village elders are adequately facilitated while they undertake these noble duties?

16 Feb 2021 in National Assembly:
Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I wish to pass my condolences to the families of our colleagues. Indeed, yesterday, 15th February is one of the saddest days of our parliamentary calendars. Yesterday, we lost two of our Members and buried one who is a former Member of this House. I had the opportunity, like yourself, to serve with all the late Members, including the late Hon. Nyachae. To start with, Hon. Oyioka was declared an MP by the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD). I remember there was a petition and for the first time in our parliamentary history, there was ...

11 Feb 2021 in National Assembly:
Thank you, Hon. Speaker. As I second very briefly, this is one Committee that is really required now, especially after we have seen quite a number of issues that are happening outside the House. As you can see, there is fairness in the constitution of this Committee. Some Members who ordinarily would have been partakers of discipline for the many things they do outside this House are members. Most of Members could behave differently outside there but when they are here, they behave well. The most specific one here is Hon. Johana Ng’eno Kipyegon who behaves very well within the ...
