  • 12 Jul 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, Sen. (Dr.) Machage indeed took the words from my mouth. However, for the record, it is important for us to define the word ‘ready’. If we go by the definition that Sen. Khaniri has just used, it means that anybody can write anything on any piece of paper and present it here as the answer to a question that has been raised by a Senator. Therefore, for a Senator who understands these things very well, it is important for us to define and be clear that “ready” means that you have gone through the committees and the ... view
  • 12 Jul 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir. I also join hands with you and everybody else in congratulating the team from the Riara Group of Schools and even the university. Just for correction, perhaps Sen. Orengo was talking about the sky team and not the sky. That is the team that he was encouraging them not to join. view
  • 12 Jul 2016 in Senate: I applaud the Director of the Riara Group of Schools, Mr. and Mrs. Gachukia and the family. If we were to raise the standards of our schools in this country to the level that they have built theirs, then as a nation, we would be very far and our students would be respected across the whole world. It is no longer a secret that many Kenyan students in many parts of Kenya, including this county, can no longer communicate in English. In fact, the written English in Kenya today is so bad that we need to think very clearly about ... view
  • 16 Jun 2016 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise to support the petitioners. As you are aware, Kajiado County forms part of the Nairobi Metropolitan area. Many people who work in this town live in Kajiado Town, Ngong, Kiserian, Ongata Rongai and so on. The residents of Kajiado County can be referred to as the residents of Nairobi. It, therefore, makes sense that in order for us to make Kajiado County exploit its economic potential, it is important for it to become part of Nairobi through a properly organised transport system. That transport system could be the Nairobi Metropolitan Transport system that is being ... view

  • 15 Jun 2016 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I want to seek guidance from you regarding the borderline where a contribution is not sub judice and where it begins. When we question the judges as to whether or not they should be given bail, is that discussion not sub judice? I want to get a clear understanding of it so that in case tomorrow I give a contribution in the same manner, I will know what to do. view

  • 15 Jun 2016 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I also wish to comment on this matter and express my shock that an inspector or a person in charge of a police station can actually threaten Senators and MPs, particularly with the kind of violence that he was clearly intent on. When he talks about his armoury, he is talking about his guns. Therefore, we condemn that kind of activity without any reservation, whatsoever. I agree that this is not a police State but a democracy. However, we must also be alive to the fact that democracy, if not watched, as was written way back ... view
