• 3 May 2023 in Senate: When we visited Kathwana, it was in a very sorry state of affairs because we went to the Assembly and the reception and a bit of recreation was done under a tree. This was very surprising. Even where they sit as an Assembly is awkward. view
• 3 May 2023 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I was so surprised that just resolving an issue of corruption--- If there was corruption in the award of the consultancy services and in the implementation of the project, why should it take 10 good years for Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate and come up with a report? view
• 3 May 2023 in Senate: The people who are suffering are the people of Kathwana and the people of Tharaka Nithi County. They are not getting proper services because of the delay in the implementation of a project, which, to me, looked very straightforward. We called the EACC here and we talked to them. When you talk to them, they take this matter very lightly. They say, ‘We are few, that is why we are unable to investigate this matter. In any case, we have not stopped the implementation of the project, it can just go on.’ view
• 3 May 2023 in Senate: How can it go on when there is a query? The EACC is still investigating but they are saying they have not stopped it and they do not know why it is not continuing. It is very unfortunate, that we have to recommend the formation of a task force which is also going to consume taxpayers' money to do what should have obviously been done by those arms of the Government which are involved in the implementation. view
• 3 May 2023 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I do not want to speak much because this is a matter in which I was involved in. I doubt the recommendation to reduce the size. Even if you reduce it from Kshs369 million to Kshs200 million or to Kshs150 million, this Government is broke. It has no money. There is no way it is going to implement whatever is being proposed. I do not see how it is going to be implemented. view

Madam Temporary Speaker, I would like to warn this Committee that these are very sensitive issues. When you are in a select Committee like this, you are not dealing with simple religious leaders. This is because contractors cannot work at a loss. Contractors are business people, but corruption within the Government, that is the Engineers and PSs up to the top are the people who misappropriate the money for the drainages and the ‘ears’ of the road.
