should be one of the considerations and that should have been outlined by the President instead of thinking about GMOs. GMOs have failed in South Africa because of many reasons, including patenting of the seeds by seed companies that make them inaccessible to farmers by making them expensive. Now that we are talking about how to introduce them, there are other factors, including health issues, which should be considered. We should have a policy that should be discussed by members of the public before GMOs are introduced. It is something that none of the East African countries has implemented. All ...

4 Oct 2022 in Senate:
Thank you, Mr. Speaker Sir, for the opportunity. Since my leader has already supported the Motion, I am also standing to support the Motion. However, I would like to just express a concern on one of the Members who has been proposed to the Committee, Sen. Ali Roba. Sen. Ali Roba is a member of the Azimio Coalition. Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairlady, I also wish to join my Chairman in opposing this amendment. I am a Member of the Committee. I oppose not just because of the revenue implications but because many unscrupulous men used to use the window of exempting computers from tax to use Kenya as a dumping ground for obsolete computers, some of which are not friendly to the environment. We should not open a Pandora’s Box by exempting tax on all computers.

Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this important Report to our country. You will recall that we have a very bitter history in this country where parties were dissolved and we became a one party system. This was enabled by Section 2(A) of an Act of Parliament. It made Kenya a de facto one The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor.

party State and it took two decades for Kenyans to struggle for multi-partyism and to remove this section. It was very dangerous for us to agree to go back to almost a single or two party system by prohibiting individuals from hopping from one party to another. I call it “hop, step and jump.” In this hop, step and jump, there are people who have hopped, stepped and jumped but they have not landed –as somebody alluded to in one of the contributions made here.
