  • 25 Mar 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me the opportunity to contribute to this Motion. I have been here since morning. Kiswahili is one of the national languages in Kenya. It is compulsory in schools. It is very close to our hearts and definitely most people speak it. Approximately 90 per cent of Kenyans speak and understand Kiswahili; even those who cannot write it. Every court in Kenya today has an interpreter because the judges and the magistrates normally speak in English. The interpreters are usually there to interpret to the people who are involved, either in Kiswahili or ... view

  • 11 Mar 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Chairlady. I was just concerned about the language issue because the intellectual capacity of persons with disability is not necessarily lower than the persons who do not have any incapacity. If you remember what happened during the burial of the late South Africa’s President Mandela, somebody is said to have pretended to understand the sign language which, according to the Kenya Sign Language and what was being communicated and which was purported to have been in English, was not adding up. It means we have a serious gap between the demand and the supply for people who ... view
  • 11 Mar 2015 in National Assembly: Then we need to have a further amendment, hon. Chairlady. That was my feeling. view
  • 11 Mar 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. Today, I have seen you apply affirmative action in the House. For once I wished I was a lady because I have been queuing here for a long time. Ladies have been getting the opportunity to speak. I stand to strongly oppose this Motion as amended. view
