  • 14 Feb 2024 in Senate: shadow cabinetry. In other words, you find that, the way the current Government and system is set up, we need our side to also have people who can take many of the Government Cabinet Secretaries to task on issues. Even when they come to this House to answer questions, it is important that we have a shadow cabinet. You will find that many of our Members have the capacity to challenge or even raise critical questions about our country and the issues coming out. Mr. Speaker, Sir, finally, the point that I feel I need to emphasize is that; I ... view
  • 13 Feb 2024 in Senate: Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker, Sir. First, I would like to welcome my colleagues back to the House from the countryside where many of us have been staying. As many of my colleagues would realize, the issues in this country are very weighty and they expect our intervention. The people expect us to offer some solutions to these problems. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am happy that I belong to this House. For the past year, I have learnt a lot. I believe that I should come here, participate fully and ensure that our country becomes better. Finally, I would ... view

  • 13 Feb 2024 in Senate: Oh, things are happening! Oh, you were saying Happy New Year on the impeachment! Mr. Speaker, Sir, to finish, I want to say that with my colleagues here, we need to look and begin to interrogate the issues affecting the administration of governance in our counties because there is a big problem. Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity. view
  • 29 Nov 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for allowing me to also talk about this issue. It is very clear that the responsibilities of a Senator, other than all the other issues we handle, is legislation. The other issue that the Senate deals with is oversight. I have just come in this morning expecting the Cabinet Secretary to be here. I have just found out that he has not appeared. In fact, I am quite disappointed because Prof. Ndung’u was my lecturer at the University of Nairobi (UoN) in the class of Economics. He always used to say that you must be ... view

  • 29 Nov 2023 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, we have no interest in stopping Sen. Orwoba from discussing matters pertaining to what transpired over the Shakahola investigations. My problem is that this House needs to be left to do its job with integrity and ability without being blackmailed and being put on the spot. There are aspersions and allegations being laid out on this Floor by Sen. Gloria. Hon. Cherarkey thinks, that the reason we went to Kilifi County was to go and “eat”, the way he normally likes to “eat”. Sen. Cherarkey, we do not like “eating” as much as you do. We ... view
  • 8 Nov 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to contribute on this important matter. I want to generalize my comments because there is an observation I have made. Many of our leaders want to destroy institutions that have the responsibility of making sure that our country runs properly. Hon. Moses Kuria is somebody I have been in Parliament with for many years, including yourself. To a large extent, we have found him extremely intelligent and somebody who made sense. To some extent, he makes himself look such a foolish man, you wonder whether he even ever stepped into ... view
