  • 3 Oct 2024 in Senate: The other parties, including the party where Sen. Cherarkey belongs are all non- compliant. If the Registrar of Political Parties was serious, those parties that should be de- registered, so that we only remain with one political party in this country, ODM. He was talking about foreign parties such like the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and the African National Congress (ANC) of South Africa. However, if there is a party that has elaborate structures that other parties can copy from in Kenya it is the ODM. If you go to every village, you will find an ODM committee. Even in ... view

  • 2 Oct 2024 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I want to inform my Committee Member, Sen. Tabitha Mutinda, that the Cabinet Secretary has already embarked on the process of implementing your recommendations, on the matter of unremitted pension from county governments and the defunct local authorities. The process started with previous Cabinet Secretary, but he has picked it up. Hopefully, very soon, we will have the task force in place to look at that matter. view

  • 2 Oct 2024 in Senate: Most obliged, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I have come in late but I was watching where I was. I am excited that we now have a Cabinet Secretary who is very thorough in his work. Indeed, this confirms what we have been telling Kenyans that as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), we have seconded our best expert to be in charge of the Ministry of National Treasury and Economic Planning. I am happy to learn that the Ministry is putting in place plans to automate the pensions department by coming up with a pensions system. I would like to find ... view

This Senate is very crucial in devolution as stipulated in Article 96 of the Constitution. However, we need to get concerned as a Senate that we should not just pass money that goes to counties, but we must also ensure that our counties get timely disbursement. It defeats the purpose of us every year passing the cash disbursement schedule with clear ... view

  • 2 Oct 2024 in Senate: I want to believe that the Committee on Finance and Budget, which is chaired by the able Senator for Mandera and the Vice-Chairperson, Sen. Tabitha Mutinda, is within their mandate to ensure that the moment we have a late disbursement of funds to counties, they rise up. They should summon the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Economic Planning and all the people involved, and find out why our counties are not getting the money. If there is a good reason, the committee knows what to do. If there is no valid reason, they should enforce and ensure that this ... view
  • 1 Oct 2024 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir, for this opportunity to also make my comments on this important Motion. The position of the Director-General of the CAK is a high profile because it looks at the competitive behaviour in our economy and takes necessary actions based on law. We have many instances of unfair competition in our economy. I hope that the CAK under the new leadership of Mr. David Kibet Kemei will be in a position to deal with. Competition is important, but unfair competition also has effects on the economy. I would like to encourage the CAK to try and ... view
