  • 27 Mar 2024 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I also rise to support this Petition. This is a very straightforward matter. I hope the Committee concerned will not spend a lot of time on this. It is a matter involving a court process that gave an order and the order has not been implemented by the responsible agencies. Secondly, we encourage investors in this country, but let them not take advantage of our people to either take their land or do strange things to them. We had a similar petition with this particular company, Kwale International Sugar Company (KISCO), in the 12th Parliament, but ... view

  • 27 Mar 2024 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I would like to know from the Cabinet Secretary what compensation plans they have for parcels of land that were compulsorily acquired by the Government before the onset of devolution. I am saying this because view

  • 27 Mar 2024 in Senate: there is a sad case of an old man who died four years ago and is still lying in the morgue. He is from a place called Kegoye within Vihiga Municipality. They were relocated to a place in Lugari Forest. When they went there, they found that the land had complications. They returned to their original land. They have stayed there for years, and the old man ... view
  • 27 Mar 2024 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the matter was raised in the last Parliament where I served with the Cabinet Secretary, and the answers were provided by the then Cabinet Secretary. They need to check their files and they will get the answers. I will be obliged to provide the responses to the Cabinet Secretary. view
  • 27 Mar 2024 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am well guided. I will make an effort to see the Cabinet Secretary. view
  • 27 Mar 2024 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for this opportunity to also make my contribution to this very important Sugar Bill. From the onset, I declare that I support this Bill although I want to agree with Sen. Cherarkey that this is work in progress. The reason I say this is because when I read through the Bill, I see there is an attempt to try address some of the challenges we have in the sugar industry. There are other many other challenges which this Bill has not touched. In the 12th Parliament, there was an aggressive attempt in this country ... view
  • 27 Mar 2024 in Senate: Secretary, Mwangi Kiunjuri came up with a very good report. If you read through the report, a lot of things they proposed, if implemented, we would be able to address the many problems we have in the sector. However, to date that report has not been implemented. It is very disheartening that we are now discussing a private member’s Bill when we should be discussing a Government Bill that picks input from that report. That is why I want to fully agree that this Bill is work in progress because a lot of other issues have not been addressed which ... view
