  • 9 Jul 2015 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, in light of the sentiments expressed by my colleagues, I think this is a very well documented matter on the kind of attitude and treatment that not only the people of Kenya, but the rest of Africa have been receiving from South Africa. This has to be recorded clearly. If we can remember, very recently there were videos that did rounds all over the world of people being butchered mercilessly in South Africa. view

  • 9 Jul 2015 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, this is an attitude that has been assumed. It is not a coincidence. The best remedy is to ensure that a complimentary attitude is also assumed by us. We may argue that two wrongs do not make a right, but we also have citizens of this country who require equal consideration and humane treatment by the Republic of South Africa. I support what Sen. Kagwe has said; that if the attitude of the South African Embassy in relation to issuance of visas to Kenyans does not change, we need to mete out in equal measure, a ... view

  • 1 Jul 2015 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I thank the Chairperson of the Committee on Devolution for that answer. This has been a long outstanding matter in Kiambu. In the response the Transition Authority has requested the Senate to intervene and ensure that this is done. • 1 Jul 2015 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, my concern is for the people of Kiambu so that they can finally get the justice they deserve. The effect and authority of this House should be respected. That is why I took time to request the Chair to give direction that this directive be obeyed. I would like the Chairperson to clarify when this is going to be done. view
  • 24 Jun 2015 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I second the Natural Resources (Benefit Sharing Bill) (Senate Bill No. 34 of 2014) I was the Vice Chairman of this Committee. This is a Bill that is crucially important for sharing benefits and ensuring that local communities benefit from the resources in their counties. view
  • 28 May 2015 in Senate: On a point of order, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I rise under Standing Order 94(1) which is express. As I read it, the rules of engagement in this House apply equally and seriously with equal weight to all of us, as Senators. This Standing Order reads clearly that: “A Senator shall be responsible for the accuracy of any facts that the Senator alleges to be true and may be required to substantiate any such facts instantly” Mr. Speaker, Sir, the Senate Minority Leader stood on the Floor of this House and alleged that the Jubilee Government came into power fraudulently. When ... view

  • 28 May 2015 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, under Standing Order 94 (1), the Senate Minority Leader has a responsibility to this House to substantiate that allegation or withdraw it. We will be setting a very bad precedent--- view
