  • 10 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I take this chance to thank Hon. Jude Njomo for coming up with this Bill to control the interest rates being levied by commercial banks. Although our economy is a free market, we cannot inhibit the economy of this country from growing the way it should. More than 60 per cent of our population are youth and women. This House passed a Bill which set aside 30 per cent of all Government tenders for that group. However, youth and women cannot do any business today because they do not have capital. Once they borrow ... view
  • 10 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: I take this chance to urge the President to agree with this House. I was in this House in 2000, when Hon. Donde came up with a Bill to control interest rates. Many years down the line, we are still saying that we want to control bank interest rates. This shows we have seen the reason for controlling bank interest rates. This country should develop to the desired standards. view

  • 10 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: conducive environment to do business. We can create more jobs for this nation. We can make our economy grow more. The biggest problem is our banks, which have always been trying “to eat the grass eaters” just like the way Hon. Koigi wa Wamwere once said in this House. The meat eaters are not allowing the grass eaters to grow. It is now time for the meat eaters to allow the grass eaters to grow and develop this nation. As it was said, we make a body with three parts, namely, the head, the body and the tail. The most ... view
  • 10 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: At the same time, I would like to urge the CBK Governor to appreciate that we do not have time to fill up forms when depositing money in our bank accounts. Our people do businesses. Some people make more than Kshs5 million daily. Do I have to fill forms every time I deposit Kshs1million in my bank account to say where I got it from? There are many ways of verifying how one has made the money. Even Members of Parliament sometimes carry more than Kshs1 million over the weekend when they attend Harambees. Why should you make people to ... view

  • 17 Dec 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker for giving me this chance to support the appointment of Dr. Muraguri. Hon. Speaker, as we were vetting him, we realized that he is a person with a wealth of experience and he is ready to work for this nation. Dr. Muraguri is a person with a vision and a passion when it comes to matters of health in this country. Dr. Muraguri and Dr. Cleopa should sit down and come up with a clear-cut policy which will reduce the deaths we are facing from non- communicable diseases. On that note, I would like to thank ... view

  • 10 Nov 2015 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I was talking about a lady teacher from my constituency who had a mental problem and was taken to Mathari Mental Hospital. While there, her eyes were gouged out by the other patients. It took a lot of time for Mathari Mental Hospital to take responsibility. Let those people be treated equally as normal people. Let them be given the protection that they deserve. The issue here is about taking responsibility. We have seen many people in this country being given wrong diagnosis. I remember my father who was being treated for stomach ulcers in a ... view
  • 14 Oct 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I support the deletion. Why do we want to gag Members when they are within the precincts of Parliament? We should not surrender ourselves to the control of other bodies. I support the deletion. view
