  • 25 Jul 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I was prompted to ask this Question because of the problem we are facing in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs). The rate of the girl child dropping out of school is very high. Girls drop out of school because of this problem. Yesterday in the media, the Minister for Health said that there would be free maternal care. Women will not be paying any maternity fees. The Ministry is providing Kshs50 million to women who are delivering. view
  • 25 Jul 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, could the Ministry consider diverting this Kshs50 million to primary and secondary schools to help the girls, since women will now get free maternity care? view
  • 25 Jul 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, this is a Government and there is collective responsibility in every Government. If the Assistant Minister knows that this is a very serious issue, then he should consider discussing with the Ministry of Education to try and solve this problem. It is really an issue that should be taken seriously by the Ministry. Can they consider sitting down together to try to address the problem? view
  • 26 Jun 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to ask the Minister for Roads and Public Works the following Question by Private Notice. (a) Is the Minister aware that the bridge connecting West Pokot District and Turkana at Kainuk collapsed two weeks ago, causing untold suffering to the Turkana people? (b) What urgent measures is the Minister taking to repair the bridge? view
  • 26 Jun 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I would like to thank the Minister, at least, for saving the situation in Turkana and Southern Sudan. A lot of heavy cargo is transported across that bridge. That is the only bridge that connects us to Turkana and Southern Sudan and the bailey bridge cannot accommodate more than 40 tonnes. Mr. Speaker, Sir, could the Minister ensure that the bailey bridge is removed and a permanent bridge is constructed immediately? view
  • 26 Jun 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am pleading with the Minister to make a trip to this area. All the bridges that were constructed along that road from Kitale to Lokichoggio have collapsed. Could the Minister consider redoing all the bridges? At the moment, there is a lot of heavy rain in that area and many of the bridges are just collapsing. In my constituency, three bridges have already collapsed. Traffic has been diverted to other routes, which cannot accommodate the heavy commercial vehicles. When re-designing the Kainuk Bridge, could the Minister consider re-designing all the other bridges along that road, so ... view
  • 26 Jun 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I think the Attorney-General is not taking this issue very seriously. These people were shot dead in 1999. How long does it take the Attorney-General to conclude a case of this nature if he is serious in what he is doing? If he does not have enough staff he should request for more staff to be employed. view
  • 20 Jun 2007 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me the opportunity to contribute and add my voice to this very important--- view
  • 20 Jun 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to add my voice to this very important Financial Statement that was given by the Minister. I want to congratulate him for giving a very good Financial Statement. But there are several gaps in it. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I want to support what my colleague, the Minister for Water and Irrigation has said, that this country has a lot of potential. I want to thank the Minister because he came to my constituency and noticed the potential which is there. Despite the area being semi-arid, we still have got rivers and ... view
  • 13 Jun 2007 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is the Assistant Minister in order to mislead this House that the Ministry is building schools under that special programme that the hon. Member has asked about, when in West Pokot District the Ministry has not even started the programme? Could she tell us which specific schools are being built in which particular districts? view
