  • 24 Jul 2019 in National Assembly: As I oppose this Report, I want the Committee to go back, not only to Narok, but also to all the counties where the military has illegally taken over massive community land. The underlying factor here is community land. All these areas are affected by the massive land grabbing. It has happened and yet these are community land. The community lands are basically for the pastoral communities where we do not have clear ownership of land. Because of that they take advantage to take our land. It is not only the military. You can hear of a project like the ... view
  • 4 Jun 2019 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I rise to ask the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection the following Question: (a) Is the Cabinet Secretary aware that the National Social Security Fund’s (NSSF) Isiolo and Marsabit branches are understaffed? (b) What plans has the Cabinet Secretary put in place to address the understaffing of the two branches in order to facilitate residents of Isiolo County and neighbouring areas to access the services of the NSSF? view

  • 24 Apr 2019 in National Assembly: disservice to the people of Isiolo if I would not have had an opportunity to contribute to this debate. I would like to say that I rise to partially support the President’s Address with some bit of reservations. I will start by addressing the national values as stipulated under Article 10 of the Kenyan Constitution, which entail patriotism, national unity, human dignity, equity, social justice, inclusiveness and non-discrimination. As the representative of Isiolo County, which is one of the marginalised counties in terms of development, high poverty levels, inadequate resource allocation and persistent drought, I strongly feel that the President ... view
  • 24 Apr 2019 in National Assembly: . Therefore, it demeans this House if the President will talk about allocating Kshs10 billion to the BBI but does not talk about drought. The people of Isiolo County that I represent had their livestock taken in 2017 under the offtake project. To date, those poor farmers are owed by the Government to the tune of Kshs43 million. I raised a Question in this House, we followed it up, and we were lied to that the same funds will be put in the Supplementary Estimates. I am sad to report that nothing has been done. The President talked about the ... view
  • 13 Mar 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity to add my voice to this very important Motion. As I do that, I would like to join my colleagues in congratulating my sister, Hon. Ruweida for always being proactive and bringing issues that are important to the ordinary citizen of this country. Diabetes is one of the most chronic diseases affecting Kenya today. The prevalence of diabetes in Kenya has more than doubled in the last three decades, accounting for 20 per cent of deaths in this country. Today, one in every 17 Kenyans has diabetes. This situation ... view
  • 13 Mar 2019 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, according to experts, the causes of diabetes are attributed to lifestyle, stress, obesity and some other factors which are generic. People are not getting screened as often as required. I am glad we have our able doctors who double up as MPs, and whose contributions have enriched this debate. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, you can bear me witness that if you are not regularly screened for diabetes you are likely to carry a disease that is incurable. Doctors advise that if you are not diabetic, then you ensure you go for screening at least once in ... view
  • 13 Mar 2019 in National Assembly: If not controlled, diabetes has its consequences, including possibilities of heart attack, stroke, blindness, kidney failure and other scenarios that can lead to other complications. Talking of exercise, I have a personal testimony to share. When I joined this Parliament, I was overweight and when I went for a regular medical check-up, the doctor told me that I was on the borderline and that if I did not work on my weight, I was a candidate for diabetes. I had other family members who were diabetic and that forced me to take action. I can confirm, and Members, you included, ... view
  • 13 Mar 2019 in National Assembly: Now, I have moved from borderline to being very normal. It is not only exercises; in exercises, you can only achieve 20 per cent of that goal. The other 80 per cent needs to come from a healthy, balanced diet. Therefore, I advise this House and Kenyans to look at what we are eating. • 13 Mar 2019 in National Assembly: The most contributing factor of diabetes is carbohydrates, if you do not eat the required quantities. Doctors advise that you should avoid unnecessary sugar. We need to eat more fruits. The items I have just mentioned are not cheap. Therefore, Kenyans need to be given reprieve through the Big Four Agenda, especially the one on food security. view
