  • 2 Aug 2006 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. Let me also support this Motion. As a Member of Parliament for Nairobi, I am happy to say that Nairobi is now not the Nairobi that it used to be some years back. Many hon. Members have talked about street lights and toilets, but some houses in our City that were built at Independence time have not been repaired. These are like "dead" houses, yet the City Council collects money from them every day. So, I am asking the Minister to look into that matter because it is very important. As you can ... view
  • 2 Aug 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I said that I will not name him while I am in this House. I will do it outside this Chamber. view
  • 2 Aug 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I know our rules. I know that I am required to Move a substantive Motion in order to name an hon. Member of this House. However, I said that if I could be allowed, I am ready to name the person outside this House. This is because--- view
  • 2 Aug 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I withdraw my remarks. However, I am going to lay on the Table of the House this document so that other hon. Members can know that this is a serious matter. view
  • 27 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I agree with my colleagues that this Ministry is not serious. These type of Questions have been asked in this House on many occasions. I represent a constituency with half of the industries in this country. If you visit most industries, you will realise that many of them have been closed down and the workers have not been paid their terminal dues for more than two years. Could the Assistant Minister tell this House, what the Ministry is doing to make sure that those workers who are hovering around in those industries are paid their dues ... view
  • 26 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Local Government:- (a) why the Government delayed in responding to the tragedy that occurred following the collapse of a building which was under construction in Nyamakima area of Nairobi in January this year; (b) what disciplinary action has been taken against Nairobi City Council engineers who approved the construction works; and, (c) what measures have been put in place to guard against recurrence of such tragedies in future. view
  • 26 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I thank the Minister for that answer. However, before that tragedy occurred, I personally had discussed that building with one of the Ministers. I informed him about the construction of a building that was going on. But he just took it lightly. The Minister has said that no action was taken against the two engineers. Could he tell this House why his Ministry did not take action against those two engineers who approved the construction of the building and 2386 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES July 26, 2006 supervised it? view
  • 26 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, many buildings are coming up in eastlands which do not conform to the laid down construction standards. The Minister has told the House that his Ministry is putting in place measures to make sure that construction standards are conformed to. What is he doing to ensure that all the buildings in eastlands which do not conform to the laid down standards are demolished before a disaster occurs? view
  • 25 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, it is not only in Yatta where there is a problem of building dams. Budalangi experiences perennial flooding. When will the Ministry build dams in Budalangi? view
  • 19 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Information and Communications:- (a) why Mrs. Jane Oduol (Personal File No.53219) has not been paid her benefits for the years she worked at the former Kenya Posts and Telecommunications Corporation; (b) how much money is due to her, having worked for over 22 years; and, (c) what measures he is taking to ensure that Mrs. Oduol is paid her benefits. view
