  • 8 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I would also like to join my colleagues in saying that this is a job that needed to be done. In fact, I would like to thank the two Chairs of the Departmental Committee on Energy, Communication and Information and Departmental Committee on Environment and Natural Resources for coming together to realize the dream that the Kenyan people have been looking for. Parliament has now come into the midst of making agreements, scrutinizing them and ensuring that the Kenyan people benefit from the resources. As my colleagues have just said before me, most of ... view
  • 1 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker, for giving me the opportunity to contribute. As the Leader of the Majority Party said, this Bill is important. I think it is only second to the Constitution of this country. Majority of people in this country, especially pastoralists have, for a long time, been deprived of their rights and land. This Bill is supposed to ensure that, that is never repeated. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. A certified version of this Report can be obtained from the Hansard Editor. view
  • 1 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: I would like to appreciate the contribution of the Member for Balambala. It was well- informed. I think that is the way we should go as far as this Bill is concerned. I come from a community that - as it has already been said - lost a lot of its land through dubious ways. As we are speaking, there is a parcel of land going by the name “Maasai Mau” measuring about 90,000 acres. It was sold by one family to unsuspecting members not knowing that you cannot sell trust land which has not been set apart and adjudicated. ... view
  • 1 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: In fact, I would like to take this opportunity to actually thank the National Land Commission for what they did at a place called Maji Moto Group Ranch, where members of the group ranch took thousands and thousands of acres from the people. It was such that if I came as a buyer and I said I wanted a particular piece of land, even if it is registered under somebody else, the title deed is cancelled and given to the buyer. Imagine that kind of impunity. I believe we should not have that. The National Land Commission should be given ... view

  • 17 Feb 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. On this one, I would like to join my colleagues on the other side. Why am I saying so? I say so because I believe this is a fair House that does not act in vain. I have looked at the amendments and I do not know why conclusions should be reached when they are still awaiting the decision of the Board of Mumias Sugar Company. When you say you are waiting for a report and the report has not come, how do you reach at conclusions? The other issue that should be looked at is ... view

  • 10 Feb 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I would like to say that Kenyans are asking questions and they need answers. This is a matter that affects everybody. It affects Kenyans from all walks of life. I believe it is something that should be heard in-camera because it involves our security and matters that are very sensitive. I support my colleague. view
  • 17 Dec 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I would like to support the Report. I believe that the appointees are up to the task. In fact, they are from diverse professional backgrounds. I think they will be complementary in their jobs. Those are the people we need considering what has been happening of late in that Commission. One of the people is Mwaniki Gachoka who was my classmate at the University of Nairobi, Faculty of Law. I know he is a very cool-headed person. He is also an academic giant. I am sure he will bring experience and professionalism to the Commission. The ... view
  • 16 Dec 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I really appreciate. I would like to join my colleagues in supporting the Bill because it is very important. When we talk about Kenya Forest Service (KFS), it is very crucial at this time because forests, as we all know, create livelihoods. Forests give us clean environment and more than anything else, actually balances nature and how we relate with it. I come from Narok North Constituency. I think Kenyans, if not the whole world, have been witnessing floods that have destroyed property and killed people. As somebody rightly said, this is because of ... view
