  • 10 Mar 2020 in National Assembly: given priority to big communities to the disadvantage of small communities. So, the lists of proposed nominees should be publicised and the order in which the names are listed should be followed as per the law in Kenya. If the order is not followed, then we should be given an opportunity to go to court and challenge that list. I support the amendment, with that proposal in mind. view
  • 20 Feb 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker, for the opportunity to speak to this Bill. I have waited for the last two days to have a chance to speak because this Bill is so close to my heart. I come from a tea growing area, which depends largely on income from tea proceeds. I know the anxiety back home, especially when they were paid the bonuses which were very poor. It is a major concern for all of us. When this Bill came to the Floor of the House, we said it is an opportune time to make some suggestions we think ... view
  • 20 Feb 2020 in National Assembly: a difference in terms of the way tea factories and processes are managed in Kenya to ensure that farmers get value for money. Hon. Deputy Speaker, I am a product of tea benefits. My parents are peasant farmers. They grow tea bushes. Tea bushes were able to take us through school in my family of almost 10 people, from one mother. That was not a mean achievement. The fact that the same bushes cannot support even one child today is a clear indicator that things have gone from bad to worse. • 5 Dec 2019 in National Assembly: If you look at the kind of concern this Convention addresses, it is meant to make Kenya a better place to live in, not just for us, but for generations to come. This Convention addresses key issues which have been affecting this country. In the past, we have heard of cases where people have taken money from this country and kept it in other countries where tax evasion is allowed. This will be a thing of the past with the signing of this Convention into law. We have heard of countries in Africa that have signed it and seen the ... view
  • 4 Dec 2019 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, is it in order for a Member to mislead the House that all supplementary budgets are brought because as The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposes only. • 4 Dec 2019 in National Assembly: a country we have not planned well? We know that supplementary budgets come to cure existing gaps. view
  • 2 Oct 2019 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker for this opportunity. I support the Petition because it touches on people’s lives. I have a huge population in my constituency, and the teachers we have are not commensurate to the number of students. I am more concerned with the manner in which the TSC managed the house allowance. Recently, there was an arrangement on how the house allowance would be paid. When you taught in a town school, you were given a hardship allowance but that was scrapped last month. There is a lot of hue and cry in the constituency. I am sure ... view
