  • 25 Oct 2022 in National Assembly: Kathiani, WDM): Hon. Temporary Speaker, I think some comments are just meant to take time away from people making contribution. So, I will ignore that. I observed that this Cabinet is made up of extremely wealthy individuals. During the campaigns, I heard Kenya Kwanza, which is now in power mentioning they will come up with a Cabinet and Government with mama mbogas, boda bodas and all sorts of leadership from that level including the small peasant farmers. The average wealth of the nominees was over Ksh1 billion. In future, I want to propose we must ensure that the wealth declaration ... view
  • 25 Oct 2022 in National Assembly: Kathiani, WDM): I do not want information, Hon. Temporary Speaker. I want to finish my contribution. I propose in future, the wealth declaration because we received peoples’ personal comments on it. It is important we get actual proof. If people say they have land in Runda, we see the tittle deeds. If they have vehicles like Toyota Land Cruiser V8 or Range Rovers worth Ksh25 million we see a logbook. There is danger when people are being vetted and asked their wealth. This is because there is a possibility, they can exaggerate knowing they have five years of looting to ... view
  • 25 Oct 2022 in National Assembly: threshold they want. This is important and I propose going forward we insist that nominees give actual proof of the wealth they are declaring. I am also happy we have democratic rights even in Committees. We have the right for the Majority to have their way while the Minority have their say. That is the reason why we have a Minority Report attached to this Report. Many of the nominees had very glaring issues. I can say as I questioned some of them, I would have recommended that almost 20 of them should not be appointed. However, because of the ... view
  • 13 Oct 2022 in National Assembly: Kathiani, WDM): Thank you, Hon. Speaker, for the opportunity to also contribute. I am surprised that one of our very close Members has just defected on the Floor of the House, Hon. Mpuru Aburi. Yet, he was supporting us and fighting very strongly on our side. view

  • 6 Apr 2022 in National Assembly: First, I would like to thank him for coming up with a great Motion. One of the responsibilities of Members of Parliament is to legislate. Coming up with such great amendments to the Health Act is commendable. What Hon. Mabongah has done is to represent his people by dealing with issues of concern to them. At the same time, he is legislating by proposing amendments to the law. That is excellent. This is the kind of leadership that this country requires— people that react to the problems of the nation. And they not only react but provide solutions, whether legislative ... view
  • 6 Apr 2022 in National Assembly: because you have a bill of Ksh50,000 or Ksh20,000 or Ksh10,000 or Ksh5,000. Patients are detained. You turn sick people into prisoners. The medical problem now becomes a mental issue. Can you imagine the anguish of struggling with a medical condition while figuring out where to get money from? That is a problem that starts affecting the mind. You have seen cases where people go and sneak out with their loved ones from hospitals. We need to figure out how to protect hospitals and how to protect patients. I support the proposal that anyone found culpable should be punished severely. ... view
  • 5 Apr 2022 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. I rise to also support the Bill. There have been a lot of disputes, as my colleague, Hon. Sankok, has alluded to. In almost every election cycle, particularly on presidential election, we have had a dispute. Every single electoral cycle is marred with a lot of conflicts, and most of them end up in court. Once in a while, the conflicts end up in the streets and transform themselves into post-election violence. So, it is important that we take election matters seriously. In Kenya, elections are sometimes a matter ... view
  • 5 Apr 2022 in National Assembly: I support the IEBC in trying to ensure that they get it right this time, but I want to caution the Commission. We have witnessed problems with the election laws that we enact. There is a clear timetable of elections, but there are people who start campaigning immediately after an election. That is clearly against the law. If there is an election timetable that has been put out by the IEBC, anyone campaigning outside the timetable should be stopped. I am saying this because the IEBC continues to be in office for five years. They are not there to just ... view
