  • 2 Dec 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the Minister has said that they have ten out-board engines. Could he tell this House where they are located and whether there are any for the Coast Province? view
  • 26 Nov 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, could the Minister tell us why she is coming to tell this House the shortfalls of the seven groups instead of taking action and dealing with them? Why should she wait for this Question to come to the House in order for her to tell us that? view
  • 15 Oct 2008 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Energy:- (a) what he is doing to put to use the four generators purchased by the Lamu East Constituency Development Fund (CDF) in an electrification project, but which are now lying idle without even being tested; and, (b) what other measures he is taking to provide electricity to Lamu East Constituency under the Rural Electrification Programme (REP). view
  • 15 Oct 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, while I appreciate the answers given by the Assistant Minister, the survey was done after the generators were bought. It was, subsequently, realised that the project was not viable, because it is very expensive to run four generators in different villages. What I wonder is why the Government would spend Kshs36 million to do wiring when they had not even done the research to see whether the project was viable. The project was not even approved by the REP. Why would the Government spend that sum of money? view

  • 15 Oct 2008 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. The capacities of the generators are not viable for a 24-hour electricity generation. What we need is one big generator to cater for the whole of Pate Island in Lamu East Constituency. So, could the Assistant Minister confirm whether we will be covered by the REP in Lamu East Constituency, and when? view
  • 15 Oct 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, now that the Assistant Minister has thrown the blame to the Constituencies Development Fund Committees (CDFCs), could he comment on the standards of the work done on the wiring that cost Kshs35 million? It has been done very poorly such that the poles are in the middle of the narrow roads in the villages which cause accidents. The wires are under coconut trees and near makuti roofs in the villages. Every season these roofs have to be thatched. I wonder what will happen to the wires. They are actually touching the makuti roofs. Could he tell ... view
  • 6 Aug 2008 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Fisheries Development:- (a) whether he could give the numbers, names and registered owners of licensed fishing trawlers operating on Kenyan territorial waters in the Indian Ocean; (b) whether he could state how much he charges for the licences and indicate how much he has collected as such fees in the last five years; and, (c) whether he could further indicate the net catch in weight by the trawlers in the last one year and clarify whether the trawlers pay any cess to the local authorities. (d) what measures the Government has put in place to control ... view
  • 6 Aug 2008 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, as it is now, there are seven vessels fishing in the Ungwana Bay, from Kipini to Malindi. Four vessels are in shallow waters, while three vessels are in deep sea waters. Could the Minister tell us whether the Fisheries Act has been amended to allow trawling within the first five nautical-mile stretch of our Indian Ocean waters?
