  • 14 Feb 2024 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I think it is because it is Ash Wednesday, a very important day on the calendar. I am not aware of any other. view
  • 14 Feb 2024 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, lastly, is on witnesses who fail to produce documents. We have had instances before CPAC where the accounting officer of an entity would show up to a committee and just refuse to produce documentation that has already been requested formally and way ahead of time. As I second and finish, I hope our colleagues see that these are not frustrations that are shared only on the Minority Side because we are all in these committees. We have experienced all these things and there is no other way to give this House teeth and ensure that we are ... view

What that does is that the public can only rely on Nairobi Water to supply 300 million litres of water per day because 200 million litres are now in the hands of a private company. What happens to that private company? Those private companies will not prioritise the majority of the people of Nairobi who cannot afford to buy water, even at the current rates imposed by the NCWSC. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, you will be commercialising life itself in this City so that those with the capacity to buy water, ... view

  • 14 Feb 2024 in Senate: Fourthly, there is a concern about the loss of revenue by the entities owned by the County Government. Loss of revenue also translates to loss of jobs. Many workers at the county-owned water services companies are concerned that once you shift the bulk of the supply of water to private hands, there is no guarantee that their jobs will continue to be tenable. It is possible that we are staring at job losses and there is no mechanism in the Bill as currently drafted to ringfence or protect the people currently working at the NCWSC, so then after these commercial ... view
