  • 13 Jun 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, let me join my other colleagues to congratulate hon. Dr. Naomi Shaban for introducing this very important Motion. June 13, 2007 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES 1749 Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, as we all know, university facilities in this country are not evenly distributed. One of the major problems in marginalised areas is the lack of opportunities for children to pursue secondary education. They perform poorly in the national examinations. This poor performance usually arises as a result of lack of adequate facilities in schools. There is lack of proper infrastructure, especially the science facilities in most ... view

  • 24 May 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to ask the Minister for Administration and National Security the following Question by Private Notice:- (a) Is the Minister aware that on 5th and 13th May, 2007, armed bandits stopped and robbed two and five vehicles respectively, along Rumuruti-Maralal Road? (b) What action has the Minister taken to provide security along this road? view
  • 24 May 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I would like to know from the Assistant Minister how many arrests he has made since last year when we lost the wife of the Chairman of Maralal Urban Council on the same road. There have been so many incidents of highway banditry on that particular Road, particularly in Tinga Mara, Naibor and Container. I would like to know from the Assistant Minister, since there have been so many incidents reported, including this one which I reported myself, what results he can show the country that action has been taken. view
  • 24 May 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is very clear from the manner in which the Assistant Minister is dealing with this Question, that he has not been fully briefed on the situation on the Maralal-Rumuruti Road. There is a police patrol car which was allocated to this route, but it is parked in Nanyuki, which is 150 kilometres away. Rumuruti is now the headquarters of a new district. When I reported this incident, there were only two policemen at the Rumuruti Police Station, because the Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) is still located in Nanyuki. view
  • 24 May 2007 in National Assembly: Why would bandits take charge of the highway on several occasions for four to five hours when there is a police patrol car which is parked 150 kilometres away? What action is the Assistant Minister going to take to strengthen security on this road, because it affects all Kenyans, including tourists who visit Lake Turkana, and not just my constituents? view
  • 23 May 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, with due respect to your ruling, if you remove the word "only" in Rule 8(3), Mr. Muite's amendment--- view
  • 22 May 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, given the very poor communication in Abidjan and Douala, could the Minister consider advising Kenya Airways to cancel those two routes? view
  • 16 May 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the Minister, sometime last year, increased the amount of money paid as compensation for loss of life, as a result of attacks by wildlife, from Kshs30,000 to, I believe, Kshs200,000. Could he also consider compensating those people who are injured and those who lose livestock to wildlife, because we are losing a lot of livestock in Samburu West Constituency? Could he also move these leopards to the Nairobi National Park? view
