  • 10 Apr 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to reply. Since I launched the branding exercise in June, 2006, 888,149 animals have been branded in the North Rift region and the programme is still on-going. view
  • 10 Apr 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, then let me call them "cattle" if that is the language that you can understand. view
  • 10 Apr 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, about the branding exercise, in West Pokot, we managed to brand 272,934 head of cattle; Samburu, 211,630; Baringo, 190,917; Marakwet, 26,000; Turkana, 21,413; Keiyo, 15,455; Trans Nzoia, 1,960; and, Laikipia, 145,840. The total is 888,149 head of cattle. view
  • 10 Apr 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the Question is not relevant because the hon. Member who asked the Question was very specific about cattle. view
  • 10 Apr 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, since the exercise is still on-going, by the end of this month the figures might reach one million. I think the exercise is not slow. view
  • 5 Apr 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, first of all, I would like to disagree with the hon. 422 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES April 5, 2007 Member because according to our reports based on scientific investigations, and I think we have the best laboratories in the region, they show very clearly that ticks in Nandi are not resistant to Amytrace. We have already sent several teams to Nandi and some to Uasin Gishu. According to the report from the scientific analysis, ticks in Uasin Gishu are becoming resistant to this acaracide. So, why should we use this acaracide in Nandi when it is not necessary? view
  • 5 Apr 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, on the issue of ticks, we have to take the scientific report very seriously because we base our recommendations on the findings of the report. If the hon. Member can say that these ticks are becoming resistant to the pesticide and the scientists say that they are not resistant, according to their investigations, whom do we believe? Do we believe the scientists or the common man? view
  • 5 Apr 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I think the best advice to give to the hon. Member is that people should use the right dosage. We believe that the farmers are under-dosing the spraying of livestock or they are not following the proper instructions given by the veterinary officers. view
  • 5 Apr 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I wish I knew that he would raise that issue. I would have come with the data. We are very much aware of this issue because the hon. Member raised this same Question in May, 2004. So, we have been monitoring what is happening in Nandi. view
  • 5 Apr 2007 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, our Ministry has no plans at the moment to rehabilitate cattle dips countrywide. view
