families are out in the cold. They had nowhere to go. In addition to that, they have nothing to eat given the circumstances and conditions that have been going on since the COVID-19 pandemic begun. Their homes have been destroyed. Most of the homes have been burnt to the ground and for other people, their crops have been destroyed.

Madam Deputy Speaker, what is going on is doing more harm than good. As much as we are here and we stand and support conservation, what is happening is against their human rights. These families are being left susceptible to diseases such as COVID- 19, Cholera and Pneumonia. We saw so many small children out there in the rain. They had nothing, but their clothes on their backs. Out of the four sub locations in Marioshoni Ward, two have been completely affected in the following areas; Segut, Kaplop, Block 10, Kapsinedet, Kikingi Tatu, and Daraja. The evictions by the Kenya ...

Madam Deputy Speaker, I was going to ask if it is possible, because I know that you gave the Chair of the Committee 14 days. However, as we speak, they are continuing with the destruction and evictions of the people. My request is, if you can make it shorter than 14 days; perhaps seven and if possible, if it can be addressed tomorrow because it is something that is live right now.

Mr. Speaker, Sir, thank you. I rise to make a few comments. I begin by appreciating and congratulating the County Assembly of Kirinyaga as well as the people of Kirinyaga County. By going through the process in the way that they did, they absolutely did what they are supposed to do, which is a good job in oversight. When I sit here and hear some very condescending remarks directed at MCAs, it is quite disheartening having been a Speaker of a County Assembly, and sitting where you are sitting over MCAs, and now having been a Senator in this House ...

Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I also support the Statement. It was horrifying to see a police officer drag a human being, a woman, in Olenguruone, Kuresoi South, Nakuru County.

Ms. Mercy Cherono suffered deep injuries and was also humiliated. What also surprised me is how much the public has become desensitised to this sort of treatment. You had people standing, recording and watching as this was happening. I believe the police must do better otherwise we shall have an uprising of the people like we have seen in America in the last few weeks. Police brutality has been going on for a while. I remember bringing a Statement sometime back when a Member of Parliament for Nakuru Town East, Hon. Gikaria, was assaulted horribly by police officers until he became unconscious a few months ago. So, saying this but also recognising and acknowledging that there are good police officers in the Police Service but the actions of the few rotten and bad police officers are eroding public confidence in law enforcement in the country.

We must have better training and sensitisation of these police officers. This is to their superiors, changing the colour of uniform does not equal reform in the police force. We must see better training. With the continued assaults of citizens of Kenya like we saw even at the beginning of COVID-19, curfews and all we have witnessed over time; this will eventually make it untenable to support or respect the police in this country. This will in turn make the jobs of the good ones very unsafe. I am urging for reforms and punishment of the involved police officers. They ...

Madam Deputy Speaker, I rise to support the Statement by Sen. Omanga, who has been a big champion of the youth of this country. The issue of backlog on the certificates of good conduct does affect employment for most of our people in the country because most of youths cannot renew licenses and Public Service Vehicle (PSV) badges without the certificate of good conduct. We are a country that is doing well with technology. We should not be witnessing this sort of backlog when this can easily be done once these people have acquired their national identity cards. The DCI ...
