  • 3 Mar 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I sit in the Standing Committee on Lands, Environment and Natural Resources, I think with you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. The work is a lot. What the Senators are saying is true. However, we are up to the task. Our Chairperson has been very robust at it. Yes, we have encountered many challenges because most of our meetings have a lot of documentation, but we managed even during COVID-19 pandemic by using the online meetings. Now we are up to speed, we are managing, and we even have our petitioners being able to login ... view
  • 3 Mar 2021 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I agree that land issues are very emotive. Whenever statements or petitions are referred to our Committee, we prosecute them very well. However, until our recommendations are implemented, then the rubber has not met the road. That means that the citizens who come to us do not receive their actual rights on the issue that they have brought before us to prosecute. When the Committees were reconstituted, we lost some robust Members. I am currently the only female Senator in the Committee and sometimes I get so lonely. We need more women in that Committee. That ... view
  • 2 Mar 2021 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, let me also thank Sen. Mwaura for that Statement. I am happy that Sen. Sakaja will receive it. We all know that he will prosecute it accordingly. view
  • 2 Mar 2021 in Senate: Now that we have had conversations around mental health and mental disorders, which is what this is about, we should also start to appreciate that when some of these cases are send to mental health institutions, it adds to the stigma that we are trying to fight as a nation because mental health institutions are not bad places. The reason this happens is because the Government has not laid out any infrastructure for such cases like autism and others. They have been truly neglected because we came across them when we were prosecuting the Mental Health Bill. They have come ... view
  • 24 Feb 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I want to thank Sen. (Dr.) Mbito for the Statement and all the other Senators who have spoken. Indeed, it is wonderful that mental health can now be discussed more openly. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I want to let you know that we have several ambassadors of mental health right here who were trained and continue breaking down the stigma of mental health. I really appreciate them for what they did and for coming to participate in the forum that we had. I will keep encouraging Senators because these forums are going to be several that ... view
  • 17 Feb 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I congratulate and thank Sen. (Dr.) Mbito for bringing this Petition on behalf of the Petitioners. In the Committee on Land, Environment and Natural Resources, we prosecute many petitions on land. I am very proud that our Committee, with the leadership of Sen. Mwangi, has been able to prosecute quite a lot of Petitions that deal with land. view
  • 17 Feb 2021 in Senate: As you know, land issues are always emotive, given the cultural and financial weight we give land. Therefore, this is one of those cases that we shall definitely prosecute with utmost fairness and impartiality, as we always have. view
  • 17 Feb 2021 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I find the prosecuting of Petitions as one of the most fulfilling roles. This is because by the time the Petitioners come to this House, they have reached the end. They have tried everything they can and received no relief. Therefore, when they come to the Committee and we have to look at the different agencies and bring them together to prosecute one matter, it is very fulfilling when we have to give direction. This is to make sure that the citizens are given the relief that they need. This Petition will be dealt with accordingly and ... view
