  • 15 Nov 2022 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I also rise to support. When we talk about EAC, thoughts of Pan-Africanism arise. I wish to ask Members that when they go for elections, they should look at people who will put the face of Kenya in that Parliament. Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. view
  • 9 Nov 2022 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I rise to support the Motion of engaging Eng. Koome as the IG of Police. The past five years have been tough for this country. We all know that the police force was used by the ruling party to oppress those perceived to be against the system. With Eng. Koome’s experience and exposure, it is my wish that this will come to pass. I hope he will not go back to where Mr. Kinoti was and start oppressing the perceived opponents of the system. view

  • 9 Nov 2022 in Senate: Eng. Koome, having the experience, exposure and being an engineer like me, he has what it takes to be a good IG. I believe he will not take the same path. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is very important to note that Mr. Koome will get into office at a time when we are experiencing a very high number of suicides among the disciplined forces. I recommend that he engages positively with the officers so that they get a way of ventilating their anger because the incidences of officers turning their guns against themselves and colleagues are quite alarming. • 8 Nov 2022 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I take this opportunity to welcome the pupils from Nyeri County, Kieni West sub-county to the Senate. The journey to this place - for all of us - has not been easy but they have what it takes. After completion of their education, they too can work very hard and join the Senate. This is the House that regulates, controls and oversights the county governments. I am pleased to say that these are pupils from humble backgrounds; one of the drought ravished areas in Nyeri County. I welcome them to this House, so that they can see ... view
  • 27 Oct 2022 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.56 (1) (a), to make a Statement relating to matters in which the Committee on Energy is responsible, the High Cost of Energy in the Country. Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, let me start by thanking Members of the Committee on Energy for unanimously electing me the Chairperson. The cost of energy is a fundamental driver in any economy and society. In Kenya, that cost has increased significantly affecting the cost of living to the negative. • 27 Oct 2022 in Senate: The contracts signed by IPPs have an average length of 23 and 27 years. A majority of the IPPs expire in 2030. There are IPP contracts that will expire in January, 2043. This is so sad. KPLC has to pay for what has been generated, regardless of whether it has been consumed or not. This is a very sad occurrence, indeed. My Committee intends to study the report of the Presidential Taskforce on IPPs. The report was presented to His Excellency the President last year and provides further guidance to this august House. Turkana, Marsabit, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera counties ... view

  • 27 Oct 2022 in Senate: of production for electricity. This will reduce carbon emissions that has increased global warming. Additionally, it will be in line with the Presidents goal to switch to 100 per cent renewable energy by 2030. Turkana, Marsabit, Garissa, Wajir and Mandera counties should be added to the grid. This would be done by working with IPPs. Lake Turkana Wind Power and Garissa Solar Power in collaboration with Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO) can provide power to these counties. In addition, KPLC has agreed with Ethiopian Electric Power to purchase electricity at a cost of only Kshs9.04 per unit. This is ... view
