  • 1 Nov 2023 in Senate: loans and are unable to get out. Every day they get deeper and deeper into debts. That is one of the explanations why mental health issues among the young people are increasing. Additionally, that is why the rate of suicide and family breakups are increasing. We, as a Government and leadership, have not put in place the right procedures, legal framework and policy framework to ensure that those young people who do not have the business experience, but have the acumen to dare take the risk are protected from the exploitive banking sector, which every day wakes up only to ... view

  • 31 Oct 2023 in Senate: Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I rise at the onset to oppose. I am quite perturbed by the mathematics that has been done in this House. I thought that a bigger number would give us a wider base of knowledge. Eleven Members cannot and will never possess the knowledge that the 67 Members of this House have. As has been mentioned by my colleagues, I do not want to repeat that this is the second time that the governor will be coming here. Therefore, it is very important that the whole nation, specifically women in this country, get ... view
  • 19 Oct 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I rise to support the Statement on the demolition and eviction of squatters in Mavoko. We are living in the 21st Century in the digital era. People are issued with title deeds which is equivalent to the legal tender. Indeed, it is very sad that someone can issue a fake title deed. Mind you this is in a country where we have the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and functional systems. We even have banks which give people the money to construct houses. Our county governments give licenses to construct and raise levies on ... view

  • 19 Oct 2023 in Senate: As a Government, a House and elected leadership, we must stand up and put measures and frameworks in place to ensure that no person in this country loses money in the hands of unscrupulous business people, who collaborate with Government officials to defraud Kenyans of their money. It does not matter which side of the Government or the political divide we are in. We are all Kenyans and we must stand up to count that Kenyans cannot continue losing money, year in year out. In this time and age of digitalisation, we will demand that the Registrar of Land ascertains ... view
  • 12 Oct 2023 in Senate: Thank you very much, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I also rise to support the report of the Mediation Committee where I sat as a Member. It is very important for the House of Senate to ensure that every Bill that is enacted does not claw back on the benefits of devolution. As champions and people mandated by the electorate to protect devolution, it is important that we ensure that the roles and functions that have been devolved are protected. Further, it is also our mandate and duty to ensure that we continue unbundling more of those functions and ensure that the ... view
  • 12 Oct 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. All those functions that belong to the county government must be protected. All these regulatory bodies that the national Government purports to want to formulate to be oversighted or to be controlled by the Permanent Secretaries, we must refrain from and discourage that. One of the ways will be to look at the State Corporations Act, which requires that Permanent Secretaries, in particular line Ministries, oversight those state bodies so that we do not claw back on the devolved units. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I support. view

  • 28 Sep 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I rise pursuant to Standing Order No.53(1) to request a Statement on the regulation of the scrap metal industry in Kenya.
