  • 24 Aug 2010 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, even as we say our security is paramount, we must also think of those people who provide security in this nation. If you look at the kind of houses our police officers live in, it is pathetic. It is inhuman. It is about time that we also started thinking of the conditions that our security forces live in. We must provide them with good services. We must pay them well, so that they can carry out their duties as required. It must be also a deliberate policy for this Government, not only to provide proper housing, ... view
  • 18 Aug 2010 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me a chance to contribute to the debate on Vote 31 – Ministry of Education. From the outset, I want to take this opportunity to thank the Minister for Education and his staff for doing a good job in the Ministry. The Minister has been very industrious; he has been all over the country visiting all areas, even North Eastern Province, to ensure that education in this country is given to our children. In the same breath, allow me to thank the departmental committee on education for also doing a wonderful ... view
  • 18 Aug 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is about time that we teach our children to be patriotic. I want to see the Ministry of Education coming up with policies where our children sing the National Anthem every morning, so that they have a sense of belonging to this nation called Kenya. I want to see us go to the old system where our children could learn anywhere in this country. They could be posted to Murang’a and Coast Province to study. In so doing, we will kill ethnicity. We do not want our children to start thinking that they are ... view
  • 18 Aug 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, most of our schools are not managed well. I want to urge the Ministry of Education to come up with a system where they can conduct seminars for heads of our schools. Most of the schools which are not well managed have abysmal performance. So, we need to have our teachers, especially principals, go for seminars on how to manage financial and human resources. That way, we will have managers running our institutions because they are extremely important. I want to thank the Ministry for the ongoing teachers recruitment exercise. This was long overdue. Even ... view

  • 21 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I also rise to support this Motion strongly. Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, a country that cannot take care of its youth or invest in its children is doomed. Indeed, in this country, we have a duty to ensure that we invest in the education of our children. In doing so, we are giving our children a dream. We are making them dream to be anything they want to be, for example, engineers, doctors, Members of Parliament or anything that they want to be. But we cannot make our children believe in the beauty of ... view
  • 20 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: No, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I want to ask a question. view
  • 8 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I think there is relevance in this Question in that there are maternal deaths. We should be answering this Question. view
  • 6 Jul 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I hope that when the Minister is distributing these ambulances, Kitutu Masaba will benefit because we do not have any at all. She has said that she has a deficiency in technicians; what plans does she have to train or hire them? We have quite a number of technicians who are not employed. For sure, Kitutu Masaba Constituency does not have even one technician. view
  • 30 Jun 2010 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I beg to give notice of the following Motion:- THAT this House adopts the report of the tribunal appointed by the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) on 23rd January, 2009, vide the Kenya Gazette Notice No.699 to review the terms and conditions of service of Members of Parliament and staff of the National Assembly and presented to the Commission on 12th November, 2009, together with the comments and recommendations of the Commission and further, pursuant to Section 48 of the Constitution urges the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance to introduce the Draft Bills attached ... view
