  • 30 May 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I rise to support the Statement by Sen. Cherarkey. On the issue of SFR, I know that since 1970s until recently when they suspended SFR, the number of bags of maize that they used to store was about two million a year. As soon as the Committee does its job and SFR is revived, they need to increase the number of bags in the SFR. This is because if they maintain the two million bags that they used to store in the 1970s and 1980s, it will not be sufficient. Our population has risen from ... view
  • 30 May 2023 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I rise to support this Motion to have Senate Mashinani in Turkana County. Since the advent of devolution, Turkana County has received over Kshs100 billion because the average is around Kshs9 billion. Up to date, it is over Kshs100 billion. Recently, we approved another Kshs1 billion as Equalization Fund. That will be a good opportunity for Senators to go and see what the resources have done for close to 11 years. It will also be an opportunity for Senators to see the status of health facilities, which include the county referral hospital, sub county hospitals, dispensaries and ... view

  • 30 May 2023 in Senate: Resources are being sent to the counties, but you will be surprised that there is not much on the ground. The problem was in Financial Year 2020/2021 where the Senate did not go to any county because of COVID-19. That will be a good opportunity for us to see whether we are getting value for money at the counties. It will also be good for all the committees to have meetings within the county at that time. We will require an interpreter, so that the local people of Turkana can follow the proceedings or even for the witnesses that may ... view
  • 25 May 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. You have just talked of the male Senators. So, I thank KEWOSA for going to Langata Women’s Prison and helping the mothers and the children. I hope they shall also extend the same during Father’s Day in June, 2023, and maybe go to Kamiti Prison. We are there to help. We can send the female Senators to the male prisons too. We shall chip in and contribute, so that those with petty offences are released. What also touched me was about the school in Baringo County in Kabarnet. This is a special school that ... view
  • 24 May 2023 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. We have agreed with the CS that we have a meeting with him this Friday as a Committee, then we will schedule one of the Wednesdays in this House so that he gives us the actual status of the last-mile connectivity across the country. This is because there was even an advert that was put out last week by the Ministry for last-mile connectivity and most of the counties which were going to benefit from that connectivity are those that are already above 50 per cent. Many are below 40 per cent like Elgeiyo ... view

  • 24 May 2023 in Senate: get as they do the oil. So, I would request the CS going forward to engage closely with the County Government of Turkana and also the people of Lokichar so that they know. This is because when you move the next crude oil, I do not think that they will even have something to benefit from. This is because I believe the investor would want to first--- view
  • 24 May 2023 in Senate: Now, I want to ask my question. The CS informed the House that they are exporting the crude oil and we have a refinery in Mombasa that can refine and process the crude that will help the country to generate employment for our youth. Why do we not revive the refinery in Mombasa, process the crude oil, sell the white oil in the country and generate more employment for the youth? I thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. view
