Temporary Deputy Chairman, I rise to oppose this amendment because if the security officers seize your computer or any other material that you have been using to perform your work, there is no harm in you being given an opportunity to access your computer and make a copy of what you have so that you can continue doing your own activity. Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, because we have already taken the amendments by the Chair of the Committee on Administration and National Security, mine was to delete Clauses 4 and 6 because of the offences. It was an offence in the Constitution, but these amendments have enhanced them so that they do not offend in any way. Basically, we will live with it because there is nothing offensive to the law.

THAT, Clause 27 of the Bill be amended— (a) in sub-clause (2) by deleting the words “the period specified in the notice” and substituting therefor the words “thirty days”. (b) by deleting sub-clause (4); This is to define the time limit for preservation of traffic data and the requirement to maintain confidentiality of the existence of an order under the clause, which is not necessary.

THAT, Clause 28 of the Bill be amended- (a) in sub-clause (4) by deleting the word “not” appearing immediately after the words “for a period”; (b) in sub-clause (7) by inserting the word “shillings” immediately after the words “ten million” appearing in paragraph (a); This is to rectify some spelling mistakes and to clean it up.

Temporary Deputy Chairman, I beg to move: THAT, Clause 29 of the Bill be amended— (a) in sub-clause (1) by deleting the words “a serious” appearing immediately after the words “in respect of” in the opening statement and substituting therefor the words “an”; (b) in sub-clause (7)(a) by inserting the word “shillings” immediately after the words “ten million”; This is to delete the subjective reference and rectify the spelling errors.
