  • 16 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, the Government should know that anything that it brings up is a source of corruption. I want to congratulate the Immigration Department because there is a bit of improvement. You cannot operate in isolation. The only unfortunate thing is that you have to be known in order to get your passport within 30 minutes. view
  • 16 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: There is discrimination in the issuance of those documents. There is also the problem of religion. If we knew people from the very beginning, we would not have a problem of discriminating against them because of their religion. Those who are here and bear Islamic names like me, sometimes, go through a lot of humiliation because we are associated with characters that come from outside the country and bears the same religious or fictitious names. view
  • 16 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: I lost my diplomatic passport at the airport. We looked for it but we could not find it. I believe that somebody might have used it because my name is Yusuf. However, that could not have happened if there was only one identification document. view
  • 16 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: My colleague has talked about something very important on the on-going recruitment in the armed forces. There is a hell of corruption. You will hear from next week some people saying what they had been asked to give money in terms of bribes. It could be Kshs50,000, Kshs100,000 and so on. That is because those people cannot communicate with anybody else. For example, KDF is now conducting the recruitment exercise in my place and people are sending me messages. You will know what you are dealing with, when you have a proper registration and identification system. This is very important ... view
  • 16 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: The country has not been able to move at the same pace with the sophistication that goes on, even with regard to crime. I am told that it was corruption that led to the Westgate Mall attack. I believe that if we had a way to pin-point this from a central place, somebody would have known what the fictitious arrangements some policemen had engaged in to allow fugitives to get into the country. view
  • 16 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, with those few remarks, I beg to support this Motion. We must embrace the digital era and be able to move at the same pace with the other countries which want to develop. If we do that, we will attain Vision 2030. view
  • 16 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you. view
  • 1 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for this opportunity. This is a very important amendment Bill. I want to congratulate the Committee under the chairmanship of hon. Langat for having found it fit to bring this Bill forth. I think one of the problems we have as human beings is that we sometimes have to be told about something so many times in order to know how important it is, including the fact that all these Members here--- I think right now they are insured because it looks like when you become a Member of Parliament, it is compulsory. However, ... view
  • 1 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: We have schemes such as the Hospital Insurance Fund. This was a very good idea by the Government. However, people changed the business. They moved away from the core business of insurance and went into construction and so on. This is because people have not understood what insurance means. With this kind of law, it will be easier to understand. This brings me to the issue of implementation. We have people who are competent enough to run the affairs of insurance and even the implementation so that we do not have corrupt practices as has been mentioned before. Hon. Temporary ... view
  • 1 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: On a point of order, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I respect my brother, but he should understand the reason why we take insurance covers. He should have talked about the third party insurance cover. You may not want to protect yourself, but you are not moving on the road alone. So, I do not know how the Member will handle that. He better retract that and just ask for the third party insurance cover. view
