  • 26 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. This is a very important and timely Motion. Majority of the students who qualify to join secondary schools come from poor families. We have had a problem because the people who should have kept the records should have been the teachers who teach these children from the lower primary up to the time they sit for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE). It is going to be useful because it is not possible to help when you do not know the children that you are supposed to help. There is ... view
  • 25 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, Sir, I stand here to support the nominations of Eng. Mosonik and Mr. Nduva Muli. I support these nominees because I have personal knowledge of them and their work. As has been said about their qualifications, we know now that Eng. Mosonik is an electrical engineer. I knew him since he was an engineer in Telkom Kenya Limited; he is somebody who is keen about his work and quite well organized in whatever he has to do. I knew him when he was the secretary for industrialization as somebody who performed his duties very well. I am sure ... view
  • 25 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: I have known Mr. Muli for sometime; I interacted with him when he was the Managing Director of the Kenya Railways. I found him different, compared to the earlier people at the KR. He is very polished and articulate. He was able to explain a lot of issues about the railways. Just as has been said by the Chairman and the hon. Member who spoke, the KR was a very big institution, but it was vandalized in many ways. For somebody like Mr. Muli, to, first of all, have accepted to go and work there, it was a view
  • 12 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker, Sir. I rise to support this Motion on the National Youth Council and for the Government to allocate and release funds to it for it to discharge its mandate. It is a very good and important initiative. I want to congratulate Hon. Zuleikha Hassan Juma for bringing this Motion. We talk about issues to do with the youth particularly when it comes to times of campaigns. The people we see running up and down to make our campaign messages to be felt are the youth but immediately after that, everything about them is forgotten. In fact, ... view

  • 12 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: of the youth and the fact that they expect a lot any time, it is just important that we have some kind of organised arrangement whereby we can take care of their needs. Hon. Speaker, Sir, one thing which is also true is that when we leaders and politicians are campaigning we keep on promising the youth that we are going to get them employment. Sometimes you create something in their minds which is not realistic because we do not give them the steps through which they are likely to go through before they get to where we are. This ... view

  • 12 Jun 2013 in National Assembly: that what we are looking for is not for them to get white collar jobs but trying to get them to be self employed. So, it is very important that they understand that because some of the messages we receive from the youth after elections usually request us to get jobs for them but we do not have those opportunities. So, we should be directing their minds to situations where we can create employment. The Jua Kali programme that was started in Nairobi here many years ago by the Moi Government was a very good idea but unfortunately when a ... view
