Zuleikha Juma Hassan

Zuleikha is grateful that her father’s postings abroad exposed her to a myriad of opportunities, which impacted on her life positively. While studying in South Africa, she recalls that she went through the stages of anger over apartheid. The realization of Zuleikha that one needed to be in politics to influence policy formulation prompted her to join politics. Initially, Zuleikha sought the Kaloleni parliamentary seat but was dissuaded. In parliament she has pushed the government to fund the National Youth Council.

  • 1 Jul 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I am just more concerned about what women on the ground will think if tonight they do not see us in news talking about this issue. On this Motion, I just want to say that I approve and agree that Mrs. Anne Rwamba Gitau should be appointed as a SRC. I always respect people who are well educated and qualified. So, I am in agreement with this Motion. view
  • 28 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Okay, hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I was just a bit concerned about increasing the size especially because in Clause 58 a social impact assessment was not required. Such an assessment would explain how wananchi will be affected by the prospecting, especially if there has to be some relocation and also if their livelihoods will be affected. So, I was just a bit concerned about that. In the meantime, I oppose. view
  • 22 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you for the opportunity, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I stand here to oppose the Motion. view
  • 22 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Well, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, they will not produce if that fund is put in place. The funds that have been given to women and youths and, even by extension, to persons with disability are intended to bridge the inequality gap that is there in the country. If the fund is set up, it will make a mockery of all the affirmative action that we have been trying to put in place in this country. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, we know in Kenya that men have better access to resources as Mhe. Gladys Wanga has said, including land, jobs and ... view
  • 22 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: there is no fund for them and it is against the Constitution. That is not right because if it was, then we would not have passed the Equalisation Fund a couple of weeks ago that recognises that there are marginalised areas of this country. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, if we pass this Motion, we will be saying that everybody in Kenya is marginalised and that is not the case. Even some Members have said that this is discrimination of the boy-child. Somebody aged 35 and above is definitely not a child. The answer to the poverty question in Kenya is ... view
  • 22 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I would like to say that a Member said earlier erroneously that South Africa has a fund for all age groups. This is not true. South Africa has a fund for the elderly over the age of 65. In fact, in South Africa, the elderly woman gets 1,000 Rands a month, while the elderly man gets 600 Rands a month. It is in recognition that women also take care of families and the elderly man might not use his money for the family as well. With those few words, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I say thank ... view
  • 24 Apr 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. First of all, I would like to excuse my breathlessness as there is someone who is pushing against my diaphragm, if you could bear with me. I would like to respond to hon. Duale. I am a woman Mheshimiwa and I can multitask and we were actually discussing the same issue. view
  • 24 Apr 2014 in National Assembly: In response to the Statement from the Ministry, I met with the Committee this morning, we discussed it and we agreed that there is really no answer to the Statement that I requested. So, we agreed that we will go forward to get more information about this and form maybe a task force, a committee or a sub-committee. I wanted to know the measures they are taking against head teachers or schools management committees or Boards of Governors that are contravening the Constitution. In short, we have agreed that there is really no answer that we have received from the ... view

  • 24 Apr 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, maybe, you can advise me better. However, I am saying that we met this morning and agreed with the Committee that together we will try and get more answers to this matter. So, I could be seeking a clarification. view
