Zuleikha Juma Hassan

Zuleikha is grateful that her father’s postings abroad exposed her to a myriad of opportunities, which impacted on her life positively. While studying in South Africa, she recalls that she went through the stages of anger over apartheid. The realization of Zuleikha that one needed to be in politics to influence policy formulation prompted her to join politics. Initially, Zuleikha sought the Kaloleni parliamentary seat but was dissuaded. In parliament she has pushed the government to fund the National Youth Council.

  • 4 Dec 2013 in National Assembly: Okay. I just want to say that I oppose that and we will be bringing amendments to this House. Thank you. view
  • 3 Dec 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir, I beg to move:- THAT clause 31 be amended- (d) by deleting the “proviso” appearing at the end of sub-clause (4). view
  • 3 Dec 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Chairman. With due respect to all the hon. Members who have spoken; I think we are here for all Kenyans and a majority of them who live in these areas of wildlife conservancy are usually living in poverty. I have had an experience like a couple of months ago where an old deaf lady was killed by an elephant. She got into trouble because elephants left Shimba Hills National Park to come to the farms because of ---- view

  • 3 Dec 2013 in National Assembly: Therefore, what I am saying is that majority of the people who will be affected are not rich enough. For example, in Kwale, how do you tell somebody who is living in a mud house with grass-thatched roof, to have a fence when even getting money to feed themselves is a problem, leave alone buying paraffin and so on? So, telling them to erect electric fence to protect their farms is not fair because that is the responsibility of the Government. view
  • 28 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, I want to agree with the last two speakers. I want to plead with hon. Sakaja to withdraw. Having worked at a secretariat, I know what it means getting paper work from all candidates; it is going to be almost impossible and, therefore, many people will break the law. I do not think we are here to make laws so that they are broken. view
  • 28 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I just want to say that I agree with what hon. Gumbo said. I do not know how we can retain Sub- clauses 5(a) and 5(d). The rest seem to be so detailed. You need to have done some accounting in order to understand. I do not think that as Kenyans in politics we are ready for the detailed accounts, as he said. view
  • 28 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman. I think the Chairlady explained that the Committee has made provisions for that later on. It is not the first thing that happens when you have not complied. This is because we know there is mischief in politics within our country and the heat of elections and so on. It would be a way in which a candidate can be removed by the competitor. So, I think what the Chair is saying is fine. view
  • 28 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir, I just wanted to make a small further amendment, which I think you will like. I beg to move:- view
