  • 30 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me the opportunity to contribute and support this timely Motion. The amount of Kshs1,020.00 across the board is not fair because this country is just too large and the cost of goods and services is not the same countrywide. The cost of goods and services in my constituency and in Turkana is different. Therefore, the amount of Kshs1,020.00 across the board is actually not fair and the amount should be increased as suggested by the Mover of the Motion. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, while I thank the previous Government for ... view
  • 30 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: not been performing very well. The classes are over-stretched, teachers are very few and there are no desks or books. Teachers are actually demoralized. You cannot have one class of 100 pupils and then you expect them to perform well. The sanitation, the environment and everything else has been affected so much, especially for the girl child. The learning conditions for girls have now become so unfriendly, even toilets are very few and, therefore, the environment is not friendly to the girls for learning. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, as I said, this money is just too little and it ... view

  • 30 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: A teacher goes through the Joint Admissions Board (JAB), qualifies to join the university and then qualifies in the right subjects like science, but if he got a lower grade like “C”, the TSC says that they are not going to employ him. In my place, we are lucky we have science teachers. So, the TSC has to review its conditions. While we appreciate that we must have a standard for the employment of teachers, some of these conditions must be overlooked at times. If somebody can go to the university for three and a half years and qualify as ... view

  • 16 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I stand to support the Motion. This country is going through many changes. There is ICT now in this digital Government. Getting identity cards in Kenya, especially for people in the area I come from, is a nightmare. You really need to have so many papers, including a birth certificate, an ID, NHIF card, et cetera. It is high time we harmonised all these documents. Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, once a child is born in this country; it should acquire automatic Kenyan citizenship as in many other countries. When a baby is born in ... view
  • 16 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: birth certificates; their grandparents’ identity cards, et cetera. These are colonial requirements and a violation of the rights of such Kenyans. Another thing is that there is no need for an age bracket for one to be registered. What happens is that Kenyans nowadays go to school early. At the age of 16, they have already completed fourth form. They want to join university. They want to get registered and access bank loans but they cannot get identity cards due to the age limit. In pastoral areas, ladies are married very early; at the age of 15 or 16 years, ... view
  • 8 Oct 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, I want to share with this House my practical experience with one of the nominees for this post, that is, Jeniffer Barassa. I was really shocked that Jeniffer Barassa actually applied for this job. For one, she has no respect for Parliament as an institution and also for Members of this House. Why do I say that? When I was leaving the CDF Board to contest for elections, I spoke to the Minister and he told me to take my letter through the Chairperson of the Board. When she received my letter and read the reasons stated ... view
