  • 12 Feb 2025 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker. I also join my colleagues to support this Bill. I also thank the Mover of the Bill because it is the right time we took concern of our environment and the afforestation of our land. In this country, desertification is encroaching our lands quickly, especially in the northern part of Kenya and even in the Mount Kenya area because of deforestation. Indigenous trees are disappearing. As a result, land is left bare and this has made rainfall become unpredictable. Sometimes, we do not get enough rainfall because of deforestation. This Bill gives concern to afforestation ... view
  • 12 Feb 2025 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, climate change is here with us. It has affected all parts of this country adversely and the only way we can help is to have a proper programme for afforestation. We have so many programmes for youth and women that are on course in the country. If this is well planned and the youth are engaged in the afforestation programmes in every part of the country, the same farms can now divert it for afforestation while they are still being paid. They can produce seedlings where they can to do the watering. In the past, we used ... view
  • 12 Feb 2025 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, we must fight for the maintenance of forests and stop those people who have money and would want to cut in the forests on the sides of Ngong and Karura forests. We can minimize and do tax holidays if you like. We send representatives to say that cooperatives must release a certain number of trees and sponsor a programme on afforestation. That is the only way we can maintain forests. One other thing that the Bill is not showing very well is the enforcement. The enforcement of laws on afforestation and preservation of the forest is very ... view
  • 11 Feb 2025 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I think I am the only Member of the United Democratic Movement (UDM) who is here now and my party has been attacked. One thing I want to confirm to the House is that UDM has officially signed a coalition agreement with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). I want to attest to that. One other thing is that the Azimio la Umoja Coalition is not the majority party. view
  • 11 Feb 2025 in Senate: Order. Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, defend me. I am a Member of the UDM. My friend and I represent the party. The Azimio la Umoja Coalition is not the majority anymore because the NARC Kenya Party has left, the Wiper Party has left, and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has joined the Kenya Kwanza Coalition. So, how did they become the majority again? How? How did they become the majority? There is no majority anymore. They are all joining the broad-based government and they are not the majority party. view

  • 11 Feb 2025 in Senate: Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity. I will be very brief. First and foremost, I support the Motion. The new team Calendar of this House. The agendas of this House have been there a long number of times, and we are omitting so many important Bills. Instead, we are having so many repetitive Statements, I think this time, as the first session, I would ask the Members who have been elected for the House business to select and at least give priority to the important Bills that this House has taken so long on them. view
  • 11 Feb 2025 in Senate: Besides supporting the Motion, I take this opportunity to also thank His Excellency the President. When he visited Northern Kenya, he made a very important recommendation for the lives of the people in Northern Kenya. view
  • 11 Feb 2025 in Senate: The Northern Kenyan people have suffered many years because of not being able to access identity cards and passports. It was the most unfortunate thing that the measures that were put in place by previous regimes were so punitive and discriminative, that isolated the Northern Kenyan people from the rest of Kenyans. view
  • 11 Feb 2025 in Senate: Many young men and women could not even access their identity cards, they could not access passports for their kids, and some of the students could not even go to school or even do the exams because of the punitive measures that were put in place. Therefore, I send my heartfelt thanks to the President that what he has done is something that you can never forget. view
