  • 12 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Deputy Speaker. From the outset, I would like to support this Motion. I would like to say it is a good one moved by hon. Gakuya. I believe he has no ulterior motives in bringing this Motion to Parliament. As the Chair of the Departmental Committee on Transport, Public Works and Housing has already said, this Motion is not going anywhere. I think we should leave it to the National Assembly to say where it is heading to at the end of the day. However, what hon. Gakuya has brought to this House is good. Ladhies and ... view
  • 12 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: mostly youths and by chasing them away, we are creating more insecurity. When we talk about the CBD car park, it will probably not work but the railway terminus will work. The other thing which the Mover of the Motion has talked about is that 60 per cent of the GDP of Kenya is in Nairobi. I think it is a fallacy which needs to be corrected. This week there was an article written by David Ndii, an economist who said that the GDP of Nairobi would not even be 30 per cent of the whole country. We, therefore, need ... view
  • 12 Nov 2014 in National Assembly: We have got roads being done in areas where there are no cars, like Muthaiga, Lavington and other parts of the City. So, we need to recognise that there are people living in other areas, like in Eastlands; which need modern roads as well. We cannot just have the good roads leading to Gigiri or the United Nations offices and have bad roads in other parts of the city. With those few remarks, I beg to support the approval of this Motion. view
  • 30 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. I pressed the intervention button when the Order on Petition was called out. There is a Petition I brought to this House on 14th August but, to-date, nothing has been done about it. It is not even before the Committee responsible for internal security. I do not see the point of bringing the Petition to this House, if it has not even reached the Committee. It is already 90 days since then. So, could you give us your guidance as to what should happen in that case? view
  • 30 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: I brought it on 14th August, 2014. It was approved and I read it out in the House but, to-date, nothing has happened. It was about a police officer who was shot in 1999. A court order for compensation was issued in 2008 but, to-date, the family of the deceased is still waiting for compensation. It has not been forthcoming. view
  • 30 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I went to the relevant Committee but the Committee Clerk said that they have never received a copy from the Director of Committees. When I went to the Table Office, I got communication to the effect that they had given it to the Committee. So, I am at a loss as to where I should go next. I even gave copies of the same petition to the Committee Vice-Chairperson. I have even spoken to the Committee Chairman, hon. Asman Kamama. view
  • 30 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, I take note of what you have said, but it will contravene the rules on petitions. If petitions are not dealt with, then there will be no point of bringing them to this House. Thank you. view
  • 30 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. view
  • 15 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I am on a point of order. Is the hon. Member in order to talk about something else that is not on the Order Paper? He is talking about Mr. Charles Nyachae and the CIC. I do not think he is in order. He should withdraw and stick to the Motion before the House. view
  • 15 Oct 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. On the outset, I want to support the Motion. I want to say categorically to our leader, hon. Member who has just spoken that Uwezo Fund money is not for buying meat and whatever she has just talked about. It is not that we are removing the money from the Women Enterprise Development Fund or the Youth Enterprise Development Fund. We are just supplementing for the older persons who are over 35 years old. Whenever we go for meetings of Uwezo Fund and others, older people always ask: “ Wapi pesa za wazee ?” ... view
