  • 30 Mar 2021 in Senate: Many Kenyans have been at home. They are not working and exercising their freedoms and powers. They are at home obeying the science to save lives of others. This House should also obey the science and not play politics with the lives and livelihoods of other Kenyans because it is true that we may be culpable and super spreaders. view
  • 30 Mar 2021 in Senate: We have seen the rallies we have been having and the number of times we have ignored the basic protocols. Therefore, we should not stand here today, because we have been asked to go on recess, and say we must be here by recalling the powers and privileges of this House. view
  • 30 Mar 2021 in Senate: We must make sure that people’s livelihoods are taken care of. We must also make sure that people are cushioned against the vagaries of this disease. That being said, how is our being in this Chamber going to help? We need to think outside the box. The select committees can go virtual and do what we are supposed to do. view
  • 30 Mar 2021 in Senate: At the height of the first wave, we had an Ad Hoc Committee on COVID-19 that represented and did everything for this House. In fact, if there is need, perhaps we can have the Committee on Health to take care of the business while we are at home or another ad hoc committee can be put in place if that is desirable. view
  • 30 Mar 2021 in Senate: Having said that, we should not act like we are immune to the pandemic because the science is very clear. We, in this House, have been affected just like other Kenyans. Therefore, while I support, I would like to discourage my colleagues from playing politics with this disease. Wearing a mask, keeping social distance and staying at home is not political. It is a matter of life. view
  • 23 Mar 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Speaker, Sir. I also join you and fellow Senators in congratulating Sen. Kavindu Muthama for her win, which is our win as women. Let me add my voice to those that have congratulated the Party Leader of Wiper Party, hon. Kalonzo Musyoka, for giving a woman a chance to fly the flag of the Wiper Party. Thank you very much, Mr. Vice-President. This goes to show that when a woman is given a chance, she will deliver and she has delivered. As the Chairperson of the Centre for Multiparty Democracy, I want to congratulate the Wiper Party. ... view
  • 4 Mar 2021 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I rise to support this Motion that has been moved by our Senate Majority Leader and seconded by our Senate Majority Whip. This is an important exercise in the sense that as much as we are national leaders, the Senate is a counties and devolution based House. From time to time, it is important that we touch base with the counties to do our oversight and also make sure that we are in view
  • 4 Mar 2021 in Senate: touch with the people on the ground, so as to legislate and oversight appropriately. It is my humble request that during this period--- We have had quite a bit of a marathon, so to speak, with regard to the House business. If you may remember, we were recalled from recess a couple of times to deal with impeachments and other issues of national importance. It is important that we recover some of that time so that we do not disadvantage the counties and devolution in the process and in our pursuit of national duties. view
  • 4 Mar 2021 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, I look forward to catching up with the counties during the two weeks. I will be travelling tomorrow morning to catch up with herders. I know you are a pastoralist like me. Right now, drought is setting in after the short rains. There are other issues to be looked at. Climate change is ravaging parts of our counties. We have locust invasion and water and food stress. Examinations will begin in the next two weeks. This will be a good time for us to go and touch base with our constituents in the counties and in the ... view
  • 3 Mar 2021 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir. I rise to support this Petition and say that issues of land, especially when dealing with communities, is becoming a big problem. I was a Member of the Committee on Lands, Environment and Natural Resources and yes, it is correct that there are very many petitions and cases that they are handling. That having been said, I think that something needs to be done, even if it means setting up an ad hoc committee, like Sen. Mutula Kilonzo Jnr. has mentioned. When it is private land, it is a different matter, but whenever it ... view
