25 Jun 2013 in National Assembly:
Hon. Speaker, the Committee on Lands was constituted by the House, after the recommendation of the Selection Committee on 16th May, 2013 and it comprises of 29 hon. Members. I am not going to read their names because I believe the Report is already circulated. The Committee is established under Standing Order 216. It has a number of mandates but, specifically for today, it is supposed to vet and report on the appointments where the Constitution or any other law requires the National Assembly to approve, except those under Standing Order 204, and make recommendations to this House. Hon. Speaker, ...

25 Jun 2013 in National Assembly:
Hon. Speaker, Sir, I also note and thank you hon. Kaluma. Let me just have it this way: Madam Mariamu El Maawy, according to the Departmental Committee on Lands, is one of those Kenyans who are really qualified in the field that she has been put and is one able Kenyan who has even sold some mitumba and understands exactly the problems that Kenyans are facing in terms of land - especially the squatters and Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs). So, it is only necessary that this honourable House approves the name of Mariamu El Maawy for Principal Secretary for the ...

5 Jun 2013 in National Assembly:
Yes, indeed, hon. Speaker, Sir. The request has been directed to the Committee on Lands, which I chair. I am very happy with the direction you have already given, because it is a lot of work for the chairman, and sometimes we cannot prove that what we are saying is actually the truth. If what you have just told us is an indication of the way we will be going, then for matters to do with statements, it might be really good if they can be sorted out at the committee level. However, because the Member for Laikipa North has ...

5 Jun 2013 in National Assembly:
Hon. Speaker, Sir, the hon. Member is a Member of the Committee and he understands the intricacies of what we do and the kind of work we carry out. I kindly beg his indulgence to understand that it is not just a simple matter to go and order that something be done today without even getting the real facts. I want him to agree with me that we still have the response in two weeks’ time. We shall get there.

23 May 2013 in National Assembly:
Hon. Speaker, Sir, in fact, I was on my feet before he rose to ask for your indulgence. The matter that he has requested is a bit weighty and evidence must be in volumes. We will even get to the ground to check exactly what could be happening. So, I am seeking your indulgence and the indulgence of the Member that he gives the Committee about two months, so that I can get back to him.

23 May 2013 in National Assembly:
Hon. Speaker, Sir, hon. Moroto is my friend and you can see the way he is looking at me. But, sincerely, there is quite a lot to be done if we have to be thorough. However, because we have to strike a balance, he should give me one month.
