  • 31 Mar 2010 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I cannot let this amendment to pass especially because I have not had an opportunity to speak. If you actually look at this Constitution, one of the excellent things about it is that it has provided excellent provisions for women. Even though when I presented this map in Kabete, it was a source of amusement, I present it again. Kenya is No.105 out of 140 countries in terms of women’s representation. It is a shame to us, as a country. The countries we are competing with are countries like Nauru, Palau and Tuvalu. The countries that ... view
  • 31 Mar 2010 in National Assembly: Exactly! You are asking me which countries are those. That is where we are competing. Hon. Members have never heard of them and Kenya is very comfortable with countries that we have never heard of in terms of women’s representation. That is why I am saying: Shame on us as a country! view
  • 31 Mar 2010 in National Assembly: If you look at Rwanda that has just come from a difficult situation, it is the best in the world. We have been beaten by countries like South Africa, Afghanistan, Burundi and Uganda. Because we do not have time I will not give statistics. If I am allowed, I want to table this document before the House. view
  • 31 Mar 2010 in National Assembly: Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker, I wish to oppose the amendment because it is retrogressive. I do not even have the words to explain it. view
  • 30 Mar 2010 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is it in order for the hon. Minister to be speaking from this side of the House? view
  • 25 Mar 2010 in National Assembly: Thank you Mr. Speaker, Sir. At the onset, I would want to say that I am not ashamed of my legs and in relation to what the hon. Member for Mumias has actually said. I have a right under the Constitution to wear even a mini skirt if I want. However, what Ms. Karua has raised is that when you look at it from a sexist perspective; when we are presenting issues in this House, what I bring into the House is not my legs, but my head and my brains. Therefore, this is lowering the dignity of the House. ... view
  • 10 Dec 2009 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is the hon. Member in order to mislead the House that it is only one hon. Member who is supporting the Adjournment Motion? He is not in order. view
  • 10 Dec 2009 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is the hon. Member in order to mislead the House by saying that one hon. Member is supporting the Adjournment Motion? He is out of order. view
  • 10 Dec 2009 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity. I want to support the Motion as amended. The reason why I am supporting this Motion is because in my understanding, the Minister will bring back all the agreements before this House. Therefore, we will have time to look at the documents which some of us did not have an opportunity to look at. view
  • 10 Dec 2009 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, even as I am supporting this Motion, I would be mad not to support a system that helps this country in easing transportation problems. I have come late once to this House because of the congestion on the roads, even when you start pretty early. However, I would want to say that I am a little concerned by insinuations that, once a Committee looks at a document then, as Members, we merely rubberstamp. That is very far from the truth because then, we do not need to sit here today until 6.30 p.m. That is because ... view
