  • 30 May 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Chairlady. I support it. Let me bring to the attention of the House the fact that the House has been very emphatic in demonising the actions of the Leader of the Majority Party. However, let us also appreciate that were it not for the Leader of the Majority Party, this Motion would not be before the House today. It was the Leader of the Majority Party in consultation with the Chair of the Departmental Committee on Finance, Planning and Trade who sought to have this Motion brought back this afternoon. Those of us who are anti-betting would ... view

  • 25 May 2017 in National Assembly: is killing this country. We are at a time when this country needs revenue. That revenue is in those very addictive habits. These types of taxes, in terms of economic balance, are referred to as ‗punitive‘ or ‗sin‘ taxes. Since this is in an industry where people get in, in droves, it presents a big opportunity for the Government to derive revenues that will help cure the social ills that have come with gambling in this country. We were debating the Jakoyo Bill the other day. I have heard what the Chair of the Committee of the whole House said ... view

  • 6 Apr 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I rise to support the Motion. In doing so, I also want to join my colleagues in wishing everybody in the House all the best as we embark on the rigorous campaigns for party primaries. I truly appreciate the fact that, as Hon. Tim Wanyonyi said, there are those even within ODM who are unchallenged like him. I know, because I live in a constituency near Hon. Tim Wanyonyi’s. He has worked and delivered for his people. Congratulations to Hon. Tim Wanyonyi. However, it is also a fact of life that there are those who ... view

  • 6 Apr 2017 in National Assembly: tallying centre. Any political party can set up its own tallying centre, but for purposes of its own consumption of whatever results it gets. However, purporting that you will set up a tallying centre and announce the results to the country is playing with fire. I want to be on record saying that, that call by Hon. Odinga to establish a tallying centre and announce results is a call to war for this country. It is a call to civil war. We know the script. We were in this country in 2007/2008 when people started demanding and saying “No Raila, ... view

  • 6 Apr 2017 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker. What Hon. Raila Odinga said is on record. Kenyans know what he said about setting up a tallying centre and announcing results. I have said, for clarity, that there is nothing wrong with setting up a tallying centre for your own consumption. However, the announcement of results to Kenyans should be left to the IEBC as it is its mandate. The whole motivation of wanting to announce the results to the public is to instigate violence in this country. For the record, let us be leaders who speak and walk our talk. When we call ... view
