  • 22 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: The examination fee being charged is too high for many students. We need to abolish it even though this Bill may have come a bit late. Only recently, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology indicated that they will be taking care of examination fees. That decision has not yet been effected even though it looks like it will be the next The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 22 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: step this year. So, I do not know whether this Motion has come a little bit too late. However, the matters raised herein are very important. Many students cannot afford fees being levied by schools. Currently, the fees include examination fee, development fee, tuition fee, boarding fee and lunch fee. So, school fees have become too high for many students. view

  • 22 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, zeroing-in on examination fee, there is a lot of unfairness on the part of the school administration in some cases. There is always a deadline for submission of examination fee to the KNEC. The most disturbing thing is that some head teachers do not remit the examination fee in time, to the extent that some candidates miss the examination. That has been really unfair. No action has ever been taken against heads of schools that do not remit examination fee to the examination body. Students have to wait for another year to sit for the examination ... view

  • 16 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for this opportunity. I rise to support the adoption of this Report on the Pan-African Parliament (PAP). The issues that are raised and discussed at PAP are quite relevant to our everyday situation in Africa. This is because for years, Africa has been viewed as a dark continent, a continent that is infested with wars, conflicts, diseases and illiteracy to the extent that we never had an image across the world. This PAP is likely to salvage the African image to be more positive than it has never been seen. However, we still need ... view
  • 16 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: When it comes to health, they mentioned Ebola . Ebola is not the only disease. We have malaria that kills every other day. Some of these diseases need to be lumped together and be addressed equally. Ebola is one of those but we also have malaria and HIV/AIDS. I wonder if this is also appearing in the discussions at the PAP. A lot needs to be done and we also need to look around election processes where more violence and problems emerge and Africa can never be the same. We want to see that at the end of the day ... view
  • 15 Apr 2015 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, for giving me this opportunity. I want to, first of all, give glowing tribute to the Mover, hon. Millie Odhiambo, for this very timely Bill. Assisted technology is coming to Africa too late. It has been in existence a long time ago in many countries, especially in the First World. The first child that was born out of assisted technology was Lesley Brown, who was born in the 1970s. Since then assisted technology has developed and a lot of progress has been achieved. So many families are happy because assisted technology is helping them ... view
