  • 17 May 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Madam Temporary Speaker for giving me this opportunity to also support the Motion of Adjournment and to welcome the pupils from Kabarak Primary School to the Senate this afternoon. This is a school that has been doing very well. On behalf of my fellow Senator and neighbour, Sen. Gideon Moi, I welcome them. I would like to inform them that one of their teachers was my brilliant student in Moi University. I support this Motion of Adjournment on the following grounds. One, it is time for all of us to interact with our Members of County Assemblies (MCAs). view
  • 17 May 2018 in Senate: Madam Temporary Speaker, Sen. Moi is associated with the school. As the Chairman of the Committee on Education, I welcome you on behalf of Sen. Susan Kihika, the Senator for Nakuru. I thank my friend, Sen. Sakaja, for that correction. As I said, I support the Motion of Adjournment because we need to interact with MCAs. MCAs are the people on the ground who understand a lot of challenges facing devolution. We need to identify gaps in legislation which are making our counties not to fulfil their mandate to our people. Our interaction with them will enable us to effectively ... view
  • 16 May 2018 in Senate: Thank you very much Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for according me a chance at least to welcome the students and teachers from Lake Naivasha Girls School and more particularly, as a neighbour to Kericho County, to welcome students and teachers from Tengecha Girls to this particular good House of legislation. Tengecha Girls High School in Kericho County is a well-performing school with a standard performance. It has been doing well and I encourage them to work hard in school. They should admire this particular House so as to be legislators in the Senate in future. May God bless them. view
  • 9 May 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, for giving me this opportunity to make my observations on the Presidential Speech. I support it, especially when he acknowledged the contribution of the 11th Parliament to the implementation of the Constitution. It is very important to acknowledge the contribution of others in preparation towards supporting the process that is ongoing. It was very important that he recognised the contribution of the late Matiba to the expansion of democracy in this country. However, he should have mentioned something The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only. A certified version ... view
  • 9 May 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. It was actually in connection with what I read in the President’s Speech; that he wanted to see the same happen in all the corners of the country. I expected that it should have begun right from the first day when the handshake took place. It is somewhere in the Speech of the President. view
  • 9 May 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. That was my expectation on the handshake, but I welcome it. Let me also say something concerning the year 2022 in association to this one. It is very important for us to say something about our future. However, it should not be very much attached to the handshake. The importance of peace in this country during elections is paramount to all of us. When it comes to amendment of the Constitution through a referendum as some of our colleagues are agitating, it should start even with reformation of the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC). ... view
  • 29 Mar 2018 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, Sen. Farhiya had asked for a comprehensive table showing the number of teachers that have been transferred. I have answered that; that the recruitment for teachers in Northern Kenya is open. Today, I spoke to the TSC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and she said that the recruitment is taking place right now and they will realize that ratio--- The electronic version of the Senate Hansard Report is for information purposes only. • 29 Mar 2018 in Senate: Mr. Speaker, Sir, give me one week to get the teacher to student ratio. view
  • 28 Mar 2018 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. I also rise to support this important and timely Motion, and congratulate Sen. Orengo for bringing it. The unity that was shown by the two leaders of this country is paramount to all of us. That important handshake that took place means goodwill for the investors. That same handshake prevents our country from being politically polarized throughout the years. Our country was in politics throughout and we had forgotten about issues of development. I believe that, that particular handshake will reduce the political polarization in our country and encourage people to go back to ... view
