Mr. Temporary Chairman, Sir, I beg to move:- THAT Clause 39 of the Bill be amended at sub-clause (7) by deleting the word “Director-General” appearing immediately after the words “reserve, the” and substituting therefor the words “Chief Conservator of Forests”. Mr. Temporary Chairman, Sir, again I want to say that the Committee decided that the use of the word “Chief Conservator of Forests” would be more appropriate than the description “Director-General”. A lot of the amendments that will follow will be as a result of that change.

Mr. Temporary Chairman, Sir, I beg to move:- THAT, Clause 43 of the Bill be amended by inserting the following new sub-clause immediately after sub-clause (5)- “(6) The Service shall consider the interests of the local communities in the management of public forests.” The amendment is for the purpose of allowing the interest of the local communities to be taken into account on the issue of management of forests.
