  • 13 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order No.44 (2)(c), I hereby request for a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Lands concerning the settlement of squatters in the country, particularly in Trans Nzoia County. In the past, the Government settled squatters from outside Trans Nzoia County while ignoring the plight of the existing squatters in the county. The Chairperson should inquire into and report on the following:- (i) whether the Government has a database of all the squatters in the country and if so, how many are from Trans Nzoia County; (ii) why the Government, in its policy ... view
  • 13 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, while I am not objecting to the request by my good friend, allow me to say that the Statement to this request is amongst those that collapsed with the last Session of this Parliament. I believe that by then, the Committee had made some progress on this matter. So, why should it take the Committee such a long time to bring the Statement? view
  • 4 Dec 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Chairman, Sir, I believe that when we request for Statements, they should cut across the country. When you say that it should be specific for Chuka, I do not agree with you. When a Member requests a Statement, we believe that the issues contained there cut across the country for it to be approved. The issue of upgrading roads is all over the country including Kitale Town. What measures is the Government putting in place to take care of other towns? view
  • 28 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Speaker. Let me take this opportunity to thank the Chairman, hon. Kamama, who is my good friend. I am not afraid to say that he has been fighting with us in pursuit of this issue. However, on the Floor of this House, he has no option other than reading the Statement signed by the Cabinet Minister – a Statement which is insufficient and full of contradictions. In this Statement, the Cabinet Minister stated that the refugees would return to their countries in two years’ time, indicating that they would mostly be of Somali origin, forgetting that in ... view
  • 27 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I sought this Statement about two months ago. About two weeks ago, it appeared on the Order Paper. I was in this House. I wanted to interrogate the Statement but as usual, the Chairman and the Vice- Chairman were not in the House to deal with it. I hope that somebody somewhere is not out to frustrate me as far as this issue is concerned. view
  • 19 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Hon Deputy Speaker, pursuant to Standing Order No.44(2)(c), I wish to request a Statement from the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives with regard to maize trade in the country. The Government is yet to open the National Cereals and Produce Board maize buying centers. This is, therefore, causing a lot of uncertainty among the farmers and the maize buyers, hence affecting the price of maize. In some areas such as Uasin Gishu and Trans Nzoia counties, middlemen have taken advantage of the absence of the NCPB centres and are buying maize at a throw away ... view
  • 19 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: But I want the Chairperson to take the issue seriously and treat it as urgent because we need to protect our farmers, especially the small-scale farmers. view
  • 14 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Hon. Speaker, Sir, if you can allow me, I just want to draw the attention of the Chairperson of the Departmental Committee on Agriculture, Livestock and Cooperatives on the Statement of hon. Pukose. It is unfortunate that he is not aware that Agricultural Development Corporation (ADC) workers are forced to take maize flour, milk and meat as part of payment in order to survive due to delays of their salary payment. Hon. Speaker, Sir, even during barter trade, it was a willing seller-willing buyer situation. What measure is the Chairperson of the Committee going to take to ensure that, that ... view
  • 6 Nov 2013 in National Assembly: Thank you, hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. While I appreciate the response read by the Chairperson, it is unfortunate that the system and machinery responsible for identifying IDPs in the country has totally failed. In the recent past, we have had outcry and complaints about fake IDPs appearing on this list. Some of them have already been paid and we wonder how the Government will handle this issue, and recover money from them. view
