  • 20 Jun 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the Assistant Minister is assuming that the House can understand what he perceives to be construction cost of roads in Kenya. We have been depending on tarmacked roads. But now that he is using cement to construct roads, could he tell this House how much it would cost per kilometre, compared to bitumen roads? view
  • 20 Jun 2006 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, for allowing me to support the Budget that was well framed. The highlight of the Budget was meant to confuse us so that we understand that our taxes are what we will use and that donors' money will be supplementary. It is obvious that the Budget did not reflect the true picture of Kenya. Kenya is an agricultural country, and yet very little has been done towards streamlining our land policy. We are supposed to be growing food for ourselves. However, we have raised the prices of fuel as a way of hiding ... view

  • 14 Jun 2006 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Who signed a waiver of diplomatic immunity on this contract? Secondly--- view
  • 14 Jun 2006 in National Assembly: On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Is the Assistant Minister in order to mislead the House that investigations will be carried out without interference when he very well knows that he was in the company of the chairman of the same school in his own car? view
  • 14 Jun 2006 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Lands:- (a) whether he is aware that the Trans Nzoia District veterinary holding grounds LR.No.7033/1 in Matisi measuring 25.8 acres, LR. No.1174/2 at Moi's Bridge measuring 36 acres, LR.No.41 in Kitale measuring eight acres and LR.No.42 measuring two acres have been illegally allocated; and, (b) whether he could table the names of people allocated the veterinary holding ground and state what urgent action he is taking to ensure that it reverts back to its intended use of helping livestock farmers in Trans Nzoia. view
  • 14 Jun 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, the land in question is a livestock holding ground. There is also a dip for the quarantining of livestock by the Veterinary Department. I am surprised to see that this land was allocated even during the time when civil servants were still occupying it. We do not have a holding ground in Kitale for this purpose. What steps is the Assistant Minister taking to ensure that this land is reverted back to its original use? view
  • 14 Jun 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I am so surprised that the Assistant Minister who knows so much about Kitale, can come up with such an irrelevant answer to this Question. One of the senior civil servants has put up a permanent home called the "Ambassador's Sanctuary" on that particular plot. He further purports that the said land parcel has been given to Prof. Hiloroja, when Dr. Ojiambo is not aware of that fact. Is he in order to tell us that this was a regular allocation? view
  • 14 Jun 2006 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I would like to take only five minutes because I realise that there is little time left before the House is adjourned. I stand to support this Motion with a lot of observation, particularly having been an hon. Member of this Committee. I participated in both visits. One thing that I would like to address and point out to this House is the fact that this Committee also deals with foreign relations. While I completely commend the contents of the Report, I would also like to emphasise the events that came up recently, ... view
  • 13 Jun 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I beg to give notice of the following Motion:- THAT, taking into consideration that most developed countries have banned genetically-modified foods and products due to their dangers to human beings and the environment; further aware that the Government has not put in place any policy guidelines to guard against the introduction of such foods and products in this country, this House urges the Government to ban all genetically-modified products in Kenya. view
