  • 22 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity to contribute to the Tax Laws (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill. We must agree that COVID- 19 disease is still with us and factories are still struggling. view
  • 22 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: We need to ask ourselves a few basic questions. For example, why is fuel more expensive in Kenya than in Uganda and yet, they get their fuel through the Port of Mombasa? Even sugar is cheaper in the neighbouring countries than in our country. Why are factories closing down shops in Kenya and going to open them in other countries? This is because of the oppressive tax regime in this country. Some Members have said that this country has one of the best tax regimes in the region, which is not true. I say so because the cost of production ... view
  • 22 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: When those proposals were first brought in this House, we were told how they would benefit the majority of Kenyans. We supported them. However, today, the same people who supported those amendments are saying that they have not benefitted the common mwananchi . The role of this House is to represent the people. We should discuss how we will ensure that those proposals trickle down to benefit the common mwananchi . I agree with the Mover of this Bill that the Government needs money to fund its programmes. She mentioned a number of programmes that are very critical to the ... view
  • 22 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: His Excellency the President said that those tax revisions would be effective up to 1st March next year. What the Chair of the Committee is not telling this House is that the Government is looking for money to fund the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) referendum, which is not a priority. There are only three ways that this House should go to protect Kenyans. One, is to reject these amendments. The second one is to oppose them. The last one is to send them back to sender. I say so because the businesses in this country are still suffering. We need ... view
  • 22 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: As I finish, I want to urge and beseech my colleagues to reject these proposed amendments. I thank you. view
  • 1 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I just want to comment on the first Petition by the constituents of Lugari Constituency. It is very important that any contractor who is involved in any kind of activities ensures mitigates pollution. If he is mining, he must ensure that the pits are properly filled to prevent them from posing as health hazards to the communities. The Committee’s report will also be used to find out what the Government can do in other areas. Those pits are all over the country. I support the Petition. view
  • 1 Dec 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. I first want to thank the Chair for providing this very detailed Statement. Going through this Statement, it is very clear that we have money that is lost. The report is very clear on the specifics where improprieties were recorded. I just want to ask the Cabinet Secretary to give an undertaking on how much time he requires to provide the full report, specifically on the amount of money that this school received from M/s Jenkins Check of the UK and how that money was spent. Also, the Cabinet Secretary has not provided an answer to ... view
  • 19 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: Mhe. Asante Mhe.Spika. view
  • 17 Nov 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Speaker. On my behalf and on behalf of the people of Kimilili Constituency, I want to send my heartfelt condolences to the family of the late Hon. Justus Murunga. Just like you have said, the late Member lived in my constituency for more than thirty years. We have lost a person who was very close to us and I would want this House to know that the former Member of Parliament for Kimilili Constituency, Hon. Suleiman Kasuti Murunga, is his first cousin. As a constituency, we have lost a person. Hon. Murunga was a firm Member of ... view
