  • 17 Sep 2020 in National Assembly: This morning, I lost one of my constituents to cancer; a mother of four and somebody who is in her thirties. She has been to India and basically went to almost all the hospitals in Kenya that deal with cancer. So, cancer is a major killer today. In Marsabit, where I come from, there are many other ailments and diseases, but cancer is a major killer. I thank Hon. (Ms.) Gladys Wanga for this Bill. I think even in the last Parliament, she was able to bring to the Floor of the House a progressive Bill that today, there is ... view
  • 17 Sep 2020 in National Assembly: at that stage, people will be in their final days. If screening is done early enough, there will be a respite or medication might be found. Currently, there are only a few hospitals in Nairobi where Kenyans seek cancer treatment or where Kenyans go for, what is now famously coined as, medical tourism to India. If we take the amount of money we take to India, then national Government should begin thinking of having a cancer centre in every county. If every referral hospital in all those counties is a cancer centre, we will save a lot of money. The ... view
  • 10 Sep 2020 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Hon. Deputy Speaker. I just want to add my voice to what my Chairman there has given. • 10 Sep 2020 in National Assembly: At the outset I want to thank the Chairman, my brother Abdullswamad. Looking at this Report, I always find him a stickler for the best things that he does. That is the finest thing we expect of all our Chairmen. As you proceed to Mombasa, as Committees, we normally visit Mombasa in our free time, with your leadership, it is going to be a different Mombasa. We are going to hold you to that. • 10 Sep 2020 in National Assembly: I support this Report. For one, it is well written and is very comprehensive. I am also interested in this Report because all these institutions that are funded directly or indirectly by the National Treasury, in one way or another, they are expected to generate their own funds to carry out their operations. As it were, some of what the Committee has highlighted in the Report is irregular procurement processes contrary to the provisions of the Public Procurement and Asset Disposal Act.
