  • 8 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Labour and Human Resource Development:- (a) whether he is aware of the deplorable labour relations prevailing in Kiambu Mwitumberia Estates in Maragua Constituency; (b) what steps he has taken since the matter was lodged in his office in December, 2004; and, (c) when the aggrieved workers' complaints about low salaries and pending balances will be resolved. view
  • 8 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I would like to thank the Assistant Minister for this answer. I, however, want to emphasise that it is high time we called upon the Government to be considerate of the plight of workers. This is because when times have been lean, workers have stood on the side of companies. Is the Assistant Minister aware that these workers have worked for this company for a long time and stood by it? The company now says it has paid 14 of these workers. Is the Assistant Minister aware that these 14 were officials who used to pursue ... view
  • 8 Nov 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, is it possible for the Assistant Minister to prevail upon the company to pay the balance of Kshs12,800? The company is now doing well. Does it have to wait for end of the year for it to pay the workers? The workers have waited for four years. view
  • 25 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: asked the Minister for Health:- (a) whether he is aware that there was an anthrax outbreak in Maragwa that affected about 1,000 residents; (b) whether she is further aware that those affected were transferred to Murang'a District Hospital as Maragwa does not have adequate facilities and doctors; and, (c) when the Ministry will put up essential facilities such as a theatre, mortuary and wards at Maragwa District Hospital. view
  • 25 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: I want to thank the Assistant Minister for those allocations, this is a good gesture. We have been calling this health facility a district hospital whereas it has all the features of a rural health centre. I wish to urge the Assistant Minister to categorically confirm whether any money has been provided in the current financial year to put up a mortuary. I would also like to remind him that the 10 per cent completion of the 48-bed capacity ward has not began at all. Even though he is informing us that it is 10 per cent complete, it has ... view
  • 25 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, I am asking the Assistant Minister to confirm whether, indeed, a provision has been made for the construction of a mortuary in this financial year. view
  • 25 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, once gain, I want to thank the Ministry for confirming that it has set aside Kshs1.5 million for construction of a mortuary. However, the Assistant Minister told the House that the construction of the ward was 10 per cent complete when, indeed, the project was at the tendering stage, I can only hope that the construction of the mortuary will begin as soon as possible. view
  • 18 Jul 2006 in National Assembly: , asked the Minister for Roads and Public Works:- (a) if he is aware that a seminar for stakeholders in the roads sector for Maragwa District was held in July, 2005 in preparation for the start of Roads 2000 programme repair activities; and, (b) when the implementation of the programme which affects several districts will commence. view
  • 22 Jun 2006 in National Assembly: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir. I rise to make a very humble contribution to this very well presented Budget. I want to start by commending the Minister for Finance and his team--- view
  • 22 Jun 2006 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, I rise to support this Motion. Whereas my colleagues have chosen to isolate some aspects of this country's economy that may not be included in the Budget, I find a lot of relevance in the proposals that are contained in the Budget. My attention is drawn to the fact that for a long time many Budget proposals have not given due relevance and gravity to the proportion of this country's population that comprises more than 70 per cent of our people, who are the young people. 1580 PARLIAMENTARY DEBATES June 22, 2006 The Minister has ... view
