  • 3 Aug 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I was getting impatient. I want to congratulate you on your new appointment and wish you well. As my colleagues contribute to this Motion, one thing is clear. We cannot overemphasise the importance of water. Although the old adage goes that water is life, I want to change that and say water is wealth. Children from pastoralist areas are suffering. Children cover up to five kilometres to access education facilities. To add to this challenge, they have to carry water. I am not sure whether this House recently saw the plight of children calling ... view
  • 3 Aug 2016 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I am on the Floor. So, please protect me. My flow of thoughts has been distorted but I will continue from where I was rudely interrupted. The electronic version of the Official Hansard Report is for information purposesonly. • 3 Aug 2016 in National Assembly: To just emphasise on the importance of water, we have many challenges in this country including food insecurity. Implementing this Motion will help us sort out food insecurity in a certain way. I recently visited Paranai Primary School in my constituency and I saw a perfect example of what water can do in a school. The local community piped water to this school and teachers became innovative. I want to thank teachers of this country because they are always going out of their way to teach learners something they can get out of school. This school started a small irrigation ... view
  • 3 Aug 2016 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, allow me to finish before you respond to that point of order. view
  • 3 Aug 2016 in National Assembly: My time has been wasted. As I conclude, I support this Motion and urge the House to support it. The biggest beneficiaries will be pastoralist areas. We need to work together to remove the loads of water that children carry to schools and ensure that there is cleanliness. We know children in our households are dirty, and putting 300 children together without water is not safe. If we pass this Motion, we will curb many diseases related to lack of water. view
  • 8 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you very much, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker. I have been sitting here waiting to contribute to this very important Bill. I take this opportunity to congratulate my good friend, Hon. Chris Wamalwa, for bringing this Bill. As we debate this Bill and as Members have contributed, I cannot stop myself from thinking what informed the former Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Education, Science and Technology to come up with a decision to stop ranking schools. I think whatever advice he got was ill-advised. I support this Bill and say that if ranking is used properly, it is a motivational tool. ... view
  • 8 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, as a leader, I am concerned about the quality of education in Kajiado Central. This is stemming from many challenges such as lack of teachers and poor infrastructure. As Hon Wario has said, when it rains, schools are closed. We have a lot of challenges during the drought seasons because children migrate with their parents and livestock. I am reminded of a saying that states: “Your “I can” is stronger than your Intelligent Quotient (IQ).” view
  • 8 Jun 2016 in National Assembly: We might have different challenges but if you are motivated, you would want to compete with that person who has everything because you can say: “I can.” It is not your IQ. It is not the opportunities that you have. It is not your challenges. There are children who are studying under trees and they are performing better than those who are in schools that are well equipped. So, because of the interest of time and those who want to contribute to this very important Bill, I finish by saying that I support the ranking of schools. But we must ... view
  • 14 Apr 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me the opportunity to add my voice to those of my colleagues on the Presidential Address. I start by saying that the Speech was inspiring in theory but heartbreaking in practise. Kenyans are not looking for nice words but for practical solutions that will change their lives. After I went through the Speech and compared the words used therein with what is on the ground, I got disappointed as a leader. This is a country with a lot of opportunities and immense resources. For example, pastoralists are wallowing in poverty. They do ... view
  • 10 Mar 2016 in National Assembly: Thank you, very much Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for giving me this opportunity to add to the voices of my colleagues in support of the Bill. I would like to congratulate my colleague, Hon. Jude Njomo, for bringing the Bill. Kenyans have suffered in the hands of banks. High interest rates in this country have curtailed growth. Kenyans are hard working people, but they have nowhere to take their energies in terms of starting businesses. For this country to move forward and to curb the issue of unemployment among our youth, interest rates must come down. This is a country ... view
