  • 18 Feb 2025 in Senate: First, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, when I mentioned to him and showed him images of what was happening, we both walked across the road to the Office of the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration to register our disappointment that Kenyans could be killed in the manner that the people of Kitui were being killed by bandits. view
  • 18 Feb 2025 in Senate: Mr. Speaker Temporary Sir, I have a request to make. I wish we do it quietly in honour of our colleague, if that is possible. When we came back to the Senate, right away, Sen. Cheptumo organized a trip to Kitui County, specifically to Mutha Ward, where we had that problem. I remember you and Sen. Mbugua were a part of that delegation. We went to Mutha Ward and had a meeting with the security team. Again, Sen. Cheptumo was not satisfied with the meeting that we had with the security team. He insisted that we must go and speak ... view
  • 18 Feb 2025 in Senate: Mr. Speaker Temporary Sir, that was Sen. Cheptumo. A man that put duty first; a man who never believed in political divisions or differences when it came to national duty. Today, we are mourning a great man, Kenyan and leader. On my behalf, and on behalf of the people of Kitui County, and specifically the people of Mutha Ward, I want to pass our condolences to the family, friends, and relatives of Sen. William Cheptumo. As we condole the family, I also shared another important aspect in life with Sen. Cheptumo. I am an elder of the African Inland Church ... view
  • 13 Feb 2025 in Senate: Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir, I hear what my colleagues are saying. The problem here is because we had a chance to see this document before it was formally committed to the House. Therefore, that opportunity should just inform our interaction with the document when it is properly before the Senate. Since the document is before us, let the committee take hold of it. All of us are friends of that committee because we have an interest in the matter. In fact, without going into the debate on that document, I would be hesitant to have a situation where a few ... view
  • 12 Feb 2025 in Senate: Thank you, Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, for this opportunity. I specifically want to comment on the Statement that was sought by Sen. Chute, the Senator for Marsabit County. That Statement has come at the best time. From mid last year, there have been a lot of evictions, especially on Kitui Road. I am not saying this because it is named after my county. There have been evictions by KRC targeting the tenants who have stayed there, some of them for a very long time. It will be very important for the Committee that will be dealing with the Statement to ... view
  • 12 Feb 2025 in Senate: Mr. Temporary Speaker, Sir, I also rise to support this the Environment Laws (Amendment) Bill (Senate Bills No.23 of 2024) being sponsored by a brother and our friend the Senator from Garissa. I want to make a few comments on the whole issue around environmental conservation and climate change in relation to this Bill. To begin with, a way must be found now than ever before to move from this archaic way of doing things in terms of tree-planting, where we set aside a day and say it is a tree-planting day. We go and buy trees from nurseries, distribute ... view
  • 12 Feb 2025 in Senate: will happen on the ground - real trees being grown by real people and those trees being nurtured to maturity. The next step would be for us as leaders and as senators. Each Senator in this Senate is a former student in a primary school somewhere in this country. What about each one of us retreating to our respective primary schools? It will mean that there will be, at the very least, 67 primary schools in the Republic where we establish forests, sponsored and spearheaded by Senators. If that is achieved, we can then begin to talk to the public ... view
  • 11 Feb 2025 in Senate: Yes. That sounds better. Sen. Enoch Wambua. Thank you, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir. Just a slight point of clarification as we support this Motion. That name that you read was the former Deputy Minority Leader. Now, the person speaking is the Deputy Majority Leader. The label is here. I support the seven names. As my colleagues have said, we all expect that this team will ensure that the decisions that we made in Naivasha during our Midterm review are followed to the letter. Secondly, I have a problem with the moving of that Motion. That Motion was supposed to be ... view
  • 11 Feb 2025 in Senate: When I rise on a point of order, you do not give me a chance. When other Senators rise on a point of order, you give them a chance, Mr. Deputy Speaker, Sir view
