  • 10 May 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, we know that other areas--- We have heard the side of Uganda. When you look at their security arrangement, you will find that after every 20 kilometers, they have security posts. But on the side of Kenya, we have been told the action that has been taken by the Government. The Government is moving the General Service Unit (GSU) and Administration Police (AP) camps at Todonyang closer to the border. That is about 14 kilometers. They are not doubling the number of security agents on the ground. They are moving the same number of officers, ... view

  • 5 May 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, this bridge has actually cut off all the residents of Tuwani and Mitume estates of Kitale Town. It has taken over a year to complete. Will the Minister assure the residents that sufficient funds will be allocated to ensure completion? When is this completion likely to take place? view
  • 5 May 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the information we have is that the variation was caused by a mistake on the part of the contractors and engineers on site. Could the Minister confirm that? If so, what action has been taken against this particular contractor because they have exposed a lot of children to suffering due to the long distances they must travel to get to school on the other side of town? view
  • 4 May 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, from the list I have seen, there are 392 forest evictees in Trans Nzoia. I would like the Assistant Minister to confirm where these evictees were evicted from, and whether they include the evictees from Kiborowa Forest. There is a petition pending before this House. They are in their thousands. They are more than 3,000. Could the Assistant Minister confirm this? view
  • 28 Apr 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, the Constitution allows Kenyans to settle anywhere in this country. I would like to know from the Minister what criteria the Government used in choosing the parcels of land they have purchased in different parts of the country, because there are certain areas which have historical problems; these are places like Trans Nzoi, where we have had IDPs from 1992 and 1997. We have the IDPs of the 1960s, who were displaced by the colonialists and who are called “squatters”. What criteria were you using in choosing those areas, and what do you intend to do to ... view
  • 19 Apr 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Speaker, Sir, a while ago, Mr. Ethuro, the Member for Turkana Central did request for a Ministerial Statement from the Ministry of Local Government relating to the Turkana community in Kitale Town that has been under constant harassment and in danger of eviction. Up to date, the Minister has not given this Statement. Two days ago, members of this community were evicted from their Manur plot and as we speak today, the rains have started, the people of Trans Nzoia are planting and the poor families are out in the cold. Mr. Speaker, Sir, I do request that further ... view
  • 13 Apr 2011 in National Assembly: Mr. Temporary Deputy Speaker, Sir, it is very sad that most of the victims are women and young children. I did not hear the Assistant Minister cover the aspect of compensation. What is the Government doing because it has a duty of care to its citizens? view
  • 13 Apr 2011 in National Assembly: Thank you, Madam Temporary Deputy Speaker. I think there were several Members who had requested for two minutes each. May I start with the Chairman of the Agricultural, Livestock and Co-operatives Committee, hon. Mututho. I will give him two minutes, with your permission, then hon. Ngugi, two minutes, my good neighbour, hon. Murgor, two minutes and hon. Nyambati two minutes. I will have two minutes to conclude. view
