Fatuma Ibrahim Ali

Fatuma credits her success to her grandmother who took her to school after her parents separated. She chose to study Agriculture as she believes that only agriculture could alleviate poverty in food insecure Wajir County. Her work at UN Women exposed her to the challenges women face daily, physically and mentally. In 2003 she was appointed a commissioner to the Kenya National Commission for Human Rights (KNCHR) and spearheaded the release of a report faulting the government’s IDP’s resettlement exercise (Operation Rudi Nyumbani). Fatuma is passionate about girl child education and seeks to ensure none of the girls in Wajir lacks education due to financial constraints.

  • 30 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: The commissioners in the IEBC have a track record of being good performers, and some of them are exceptionally good. If you read the report, the international observers--- view
  • 30 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Deputy Speaker, the international and domestic observers have said that the election was fair, free and accountable. It is in the Report. view
  • 1 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: Thank you hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker for allowing me to speak to this Bill. I want to oppose it. That is because the establishment of that Authority will really not add any value. If you look at Sub-section 3, the object of this Authority is to give mandate to existing institutions. There are various institutions that exist and that can do that mandate. That Authority will not add any value but only increase the wage bill of this country. Hon. Speaker, when you create an institution with very few mandates, which are being done by various other institutions, it is ... view
  • 1 Jul 2014 in National Assembly: work. One of its functions is to build relationships and linkages. If the Government is very committed to create some quality assurance and standardization, it can empower, especially, the Ministry of Education, Research and Technology to do some of those functions. It is not prudent and there is no value for money in creating such an Authority to do things that are being done by existing institutions. I agree and support that we need to harmonize and create some sanity in creating data and information on qualifications of various sectors in society so that we have some understanding and clarity. ... view

  • 4 Mar 2014 in National Assembly: On a point of order, hon. Speaker. I regret that the hon. Member has said that we were copying Western values and systems. I want to confirm that I was a former Commissioner on that Commission and we never “cooked” any report or coached any witness. It is true that we did not value any systems other than the Kenyan system. I request the hon. Member withdraws that statement because it is not appropriate and accurate. view

  • 25 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: Hon. Temporary Deputy Speaker, I stand to support the Motion. The Mover of this Motion has eloquently put the resumes of the two nominees. I know Dr. Abdullahi and I was impressed today that he is the champion of the Parliamentary Service Commission. He has a memory of this Commission and has lived with it. He knows the whole agitation for establishing and strengthening the Parliamentary Service Commission. Whoever nominated Dr. Abdullahi knew that he is an asset to the PSC. It was sad that these nominees were brought to this House and their names were returned. I urge the ... view
  • 25 Feb 2014 in National Assembly: The Members of Parliament, namely, the Senate and the National Assembly have serious problems. This is not where to ventilate those kinds of concerns, but there is need to fast-track these two nominees, so that they can quickly be ushered into the PSC to execute the work of the PSC. The Members have serious concerns and the effectiveness of the PSC can be hindered because of two nominees not being part of it. I strongly support the appointment of the two nominees. view
